I remember the question of a white spot on the back of the head coming up a while ago but I can't recall who posed the question. I found this while researching "Primrose" Cockatiels. I suspected that I had a dominant Pied gene in one of my birds as All offspring carried the headspots from a pair where only parent had them. All 9 of their babies.

Note: there is a minimally pied form known as the White Nape which appears in pied stocks and is not visually significant nor fully understood. Many breeders believe the appearance of a white nape patch indicates that a bird is split for Recessive Pied. However, information suggests that the White Nape is the result of a distinct and separate dominant gene.

Ahh! My Echo has a white spot on the back of her head. Two, actually - a big one right at the nape, and then a smaller one underneath her crest which you can only see when the crest is up. I've just thought it was really cute, never knew it meant anything.

Here's a (kind of dark) picture of it, is this what you're talking about?

Edit: Echo is a WF.

interesting.....our WF male has a Huge Spot of white on the back of head, as well as soft pearling in his wings, (I assume he is a pearl & molted out distinct pearls), plus 2 white feathers evenly spaced on each side of his back.
