I remember the question of a white spot on the back of the head coming up a while ago but I can't recall who posed the question. I found this while researching "Primrose" Cockatiels. I suspected that I had a dominant Pied gene in one of my birds as All offspring carried the headspots from a pair where only parent had them. All 9 of their babies.
Note: there is a minimally pied form known as the White Nape which appears in pied stocks and is not visually significant nor fully understood. Many breeders believe the appearance of a white nape patch indicates that a bird is split for Recessive Pied. However, information suggests that the White Nape is the result of a distinct and separate dominant gene.
