Misti passed on today.

She was so chipper this morning.We went in for her checkup and blood screening.No problems.We got home and I let her out of the carrier.She flew to the play gym.Missed her landing and fell to the floor.I picked her up and folded her wings,then she convulsed a couple of times and she was gone.
The vet's prelimanry post mortem showed that her liver was shot through with tumors,with little functional tissue.
Misti's hatch date was June 24,2007.She would have been two years old in one week.

The fourteen months that I had her were not long enough.

OMG...she was so young!! Did the vet feel that it could have been an inherited genetic fault?

Yes.The vet says because of the inbreeding used to create the white face coloring several genetic issues have occured in the local white face population.Although Misti was an extreme case,liver issues and diesease are very common.
This will be my last post for a while.To say that I'm a basketcase would be an understatment.Thank you everybody,and don't worry,the girls and I will be back.

Hmmm...it would not have necessarily been from inbreeding. The most common problem that can later lead to health issues with ANY muutation is to breed 'like to like'...meaning same mutations together over several generations. I learned this early on with WF approx 10 years ago, and made it a point to always pair a normal orange cheeked bird split to WF to a visual WF.

I am so very sorry for your loss... The boy birds and I lost our little hen, Birdlette to liver disease last fall. It broke my heart and her mate's too... I just believe that she is "somewhere over the rainbow" waiting for me and flying in a better place. God takes care of His creatures...
