Here are some photos I got of Spike today :) What do you guys think he is? I have always just thought and been told that he is a pied. Can a tiel be split to cinnamon?

His tail, notice how his feathers are more yellow now. In one feather you can see it is cream but then it goes to yellow.

Even his little grey feathers above his tail have yellow in them now but you can see that he does have some normal grey feathers

His bib use to be just cream, now it has yellow in it

Here is his little grey heart on his back :love: the brownish feathers are a bit lighter in real life, kind of like they have a dusting of flour on them

i got a giggle out of "bird brain''

now i do see he has grey feathers too (your siggy pic looks tan almost chocolate brown to me) I also see a lot of tan (brown) feathers going through him
and I got to say he's the first Pied i've seen with a dark toe nail and the rest are light lol all mine have light nails

I'm going to go with he is as confusing as mine :D

Without a doubt, he is one gorgeous pied, and is quite the camera clown.

Tri-pied is just a descriptive term, like primrose pied, golden pearl...not a mutation, for what you are visually seeing. When I had it iccur with some pieds, I posted on some lists and found it does happen in rare instances, and it is called a 'sport'

The cinnamon does show up, and I love the heart pattern.

Major question though. Was he always like this on his back? Save these pix's and try to take the same shots a month from now and compare them. The reason why I am suggesting this is many times if a bird is going thru a molt the feathers ready to molt will get a paler look to them. Normally with grey they would just get lighter. But if the bird is exposed to a Vita light or sunlight this can make the feathers a brownish tan.

Though in looking at his baby pix in your sugnature he does look tannish grey.

I don't know how old Spike is, but young males can have different shades if they've molted in only some of their mature plumage. Adult males have more melanin than hens or juveniles so their grey is darker. Squeebis is finally having his first real molt and his back and wings are quite blotchy looking due to the mix of old and new feathers.

Spike is two years old, his bird day is May first :) I will take a picture of his back next month and see if his heart shape stays. I have a feeling it might as I think he has had it for a long time.

Spike is....The cutest bird here??? :) Adorable pictures, he is beautiful. Although I though only female had baring under their tails? :confused: Do pieds have this as well?
