Hi:
Just wondering if there are differences in personality/temperment depending on what kind of cockatiel/mutation you have? A girl at my local pet store said there was, and I have a young pearl. Too young to be sure if male or female yet, but was wondering about the above...

Iam not sure there is, I have heard that lutino's are more prone to night frights but Iam sure there are some people with lutino's who have not had a lot of night frights.
I think that each tiel no matter mutation has it's own individual personality :)

Okey dokey. Just wondering. Might have been her trying to convince me to take the pearl baby. I'm not a big fan of pearls and was kind of dismayed when I saw 'she' was a pearl. I've always said that personality is more important though, and that was my opportunity to stand behind my words, so she came home with us as she was sweet and cheeky. I say 'she' as she acts like one, but I won't be sure for a while I guess. Kinda busy looking though as far coloration, but we love 'her' now.

Pearls can be absolute sweethearts...both sexes. The females can be bossy and demanding...meaning they will wrap you aound their big toe if they can. They love attention. And the males can be docile and snuggle bunnies when you feel sad. They like to give birdy kisses.
Pieds are the comics and acrobats. Pieds are more layed back. They like to please.
Actually all tiels are unique with each special personality.
Solace.

I love my pearl, I'd NEVER give her up!
She's so gentle, and she will cuddle you for hours and hours, she loves scritches, she's never bitten me once (not even attempted to) in the nearly 2 years that I've had her.. she's the most laid back 'tiel out of my 7. I just absoloutely love and adore her so much. She does have me wrapped around her big toe, hehe.

Why not? I think pearls are stunning!
So, do you have a favorite mutation?

They are interesting for sure, just a bit 'busy' for me. To be honest I quite like the plain grays. I had a gray hen a few years back, and I like the simplicity of their colors. Just my humble opinion mind you. They are all very pretty in their own ways. Well interesting to know that pearls can be somewhat demanding, as 'she' is starting to become kinda pushy, but still very sweet at the same time. Really seems to know what she wants. We have her out of the cage constantly when we are home as it is not as large as I would like (house is just so small), and when we have to put her in, she is not pleased. So darn happy to see all of us too. Funny, such a big personality in a little critter.

The greys are pretty, though I love all the colors 'teils come in.
Price wise I was leaning towards a grey when I got Cocoa, though I wanted the pied that I spied. lol Imagine my surprise when I found out Cocoa was a cinnamon! But by then it was too late. I was already in love with the little fella.

The pictures of your birds are both so cute. I like cinnamons very much. The tones they have are so pretty. Pieds are also very striking I find with those blocks of color here and there. Does the part about being laid back and easy to please fit your pied? Boy oh boy that sure doesn't fit my pearl, but her personality is still forming as she is quite young. At this rate though, she is gonna be a real little madam by the time she is a year. I was really going for sweet and cuddly, but genetics has handed me a live one. I don 't know at this point how much is personality and how much is her starting to assert herself because of her age. I've heard tiels can go through the terrible twos, does anyone know when that starts, if at all?

in my house mutation means nothing, They all are the same All females are pushy, bossy, crabby only want touched when it suits them
all the males Want attention but only one allows us to touch him but he doesn't get bossy about it, but they all whistle at us and chatter and get very loud when they're doing it towards us and we do not acknowledge them lol
and I have an array of mutaitons
Males:
Normal Grey Split pied & Lutino
Dominant Silver Pied Split Pearl
Dominant Silver Pearl Pied Split Emerald
Cinnamon Pearl Split white face
White Face fallow
White Face Split Cinnamon
Females:
Pied
Cinnamon Pearl Split White Face
White Face Cinnamon Pearl
White Face Fallow
and 4 babies of unknown sex
Grey Split pied (maybe Lutino if male)
2 Cinnamon Pearls Split to white face
Pearl split to white face (and cinnamon if male)
So ya in my house mutation means nothing to how they act It is the individual Bird that has the personality not their mutation
