I just got a pair of Whitefaced tiels. But both have the white face. I thought mature females were supposed to have grey faces. But upon doing some research, I saw some females with white faces as well. Are these immature birds?
The ones I got are supposedly a year and a half old and a pair...though they haven't been bred yet.
Just want to make sure my female is a female :) If they're both male, that's fine as well, as i'll just need to find 2 females for them.

Congratulations on the new birds.

It looks like you have a pair of males though...

Oh, that's right, female never GET the white face, the males do. Correct?
Going to just see if she's got 2 females to pair up with these 2 lovely boys :)

Make sure they are unrelated. Prefferably you might ask for hens split to WF.

Well they came from a friend of mine, and she got them from a breeder a few months back. He kept all his in an aviary. I got a pair from him also that turned out to be a pair...but not sure about this one.

Are there any exceptions to the white face on a female? Or if it has a white face, is it definitely a male?

We're going to pair them with 2 separate hens, so that rules out the factor of them being related. Unfort. the only females she has are other whitefaced, and some lutinos. Honestly though, I'm ok with getting whitefaced chicks, so I think we'll go for another female whitefaced.

A bird that's whiteface pied can have a face color that's atypical for its gender. White faces for females and dark faces for males in other words.

I felt their pelvises, and given their age, I'm pretty sure they're boys. I got 2 lovely girls for them, both pied whitefaced as well :)
