i often look around parrot rescue sites to see what birds they have in and today i come across this very saddening image of a poor umbrella cockatoo (i think it is) called bella i just dont know how someone could be so cruel to such a wonderful pet anyway here it is

I can't see the pick well but it looks like Bella has been plucking her feathers. It's common among stressed toos.

so sad...:( i wonder if they spent just 10 minutes of being that bird how guilty they would feel. some people just don't understand how intelligent birds are.

I agree with that. Unfortunetly people still consider birds just decoration in a cage. It's ridiculous. Parrots like 'toos are very very sensitive and have huge hearts. When they are dissapointed that is the result.

It is soo sad. I work with two bird rescues and it is terribly sad, the birds they get in. One lady had her two plets for a month and then "got sick of them".

It's so sad to see birds in that condition. I've heard that some too's will pluck regardless of the quality care they're given. :( They're very picky birds and hard to keep properly, most people just aren't up for the task.

I've always believed that people, if they want pets, should have an inspection and then a certificate telling them what pets they can care for and are allowed to get. It may be hard to do but in the end it would save so many broken hearts and lives of domestic animals. The conditions that some pets are kept in and the abuse they are subjected to is horrible.
One thing I still can't believe that people can still get monkeys as pets.

i agree 100% also monkeys as pet i find very cruel as they are more intelligent than a cat or dog but live in cages designed for large parrots which gives there brain no stimulation also i read in the news sloths can now be obtained as pets with out a license which i also find rather cruel because what person has a set up suitable to maintain a sloth.

I don't think any animals should be kept as pets, but now that they are in captivity we can't do anything about them, but we can stop bringing new, even more exotic animals into captivity! Like monkeys, sloths, sugar gliders, fennic foxes, skunks, etc., I'm sorry I find those too exotic to keep as a pet. (no offense to anyone who has one of these, its just my opinion, and I'm just an old anti-petstore, anti-breeder person :p)
