I am so upset, my beloved Sweety Pie passed away at 7.15 this evening, I have been to the vets with her but there was nothing they could do, she was blind, and because of this she did fly into things, I did not know she was blind when I adopted her, I feel so horrid, like I should have known this prior to adoption, my vet said she was not in any pain and unless WE could not bear to see her like this she would be fine, of course I wanted to prolong her life as long as I could as long as she was not in pain, so she came home. Tonight I heard a lot of wing flapping and she was laying at the bottom of the cage, dead.

I'm so sorry. That must of been tough. Don't blame yourself. It sounds like you did the very best you could for her.

Solace.

That's awful, I am so sorry for your loss. :(

I'm trying to get my head around this - the previous owners didn't tell you? I think that's a bit wrong, unless they didn't know the Cockatiel was blind. A Cockatiel that is running into things all the time is an alarm that something's not right, and that is exactly the case with this Cockatiel - had she ever been to the Vet while she was in your care?

I am a bit confused how no one knew she was blind because usually they need more care then a Cockatiel normally would, more like special needs.

I dont know if the proir owners knew she was blind, I have been to the vets quite a few times with her, once we found out she was blind she did not come out of her cage, no high perches, just one above the cage bottom.
