I tamed Ozzie in less that a week, and by that i mean he was pacing at the cage door to come out and play within that time, as well as happily sitting on my finger, shoulder, knee, etc. :)

All i did was clip his wings and start immediately. I got him out of the box he came home in, clipped his wings and took him to a room away from his cage. I sat him on my knee and spent about an hour telling him how cute he was. A few times he fluttered off, but i just scooped him up and put him back on my knee. After that i put him in his cage and left him for the rest of the day. The next day i got him out of his cage (had to cup him in my hands at that point) and spent another hour with him away from his cage. I did that a couple of times a day, and within a few days he was happy to see me and coming out of his cage on my finger. :D

Here's a good site for taming tips: http://budgietalk.com (actually, it's one of my favourite budgie sites in general)

with most small birds the best way to start is by confidence building so do it at the birds pace not the pace you want the bird to go but the hardest part with a bird is convincing them your not a predator but a friend good look training him. edit- but with younger bird bea,s way is probably the best. :D.

Bea's way sounds good. I have read in a lot of different sites that it is a good way to tame a budgie.

It takes a lot of patience, especially in older, un-handled birds. I made sure to get mine all young so taming could be that little bit easier. Minty was so easy - I bought her a six weeks (don't worry, fully weaned), and she was a dream to tame. Brothers, Bobby and Mickey were slighty harder as they were older (about 12 weeks), and hadn't been handled. I got them both together as I saw an advert advertising them free. ;)

Mine took alot of work to tame too since they were a bit older and from a petstore (1/8 was from a breeder). Just have patience and continue to work with them. My biggest acomplishment to this day is having all 8 budgies sit on my arm, facing the same way, fully flighted. It's a pic I still love!
