My 3 cockatiels were tragically killed by a Hawk on 18 January 2010. I had put them outside in their cages to enjoy the sunlight as I had done hundreds of times before. We were gone not very long when I received a call from my husband saying not to come home. The hawk was able to get to them through the bars of the cages. The kids are devastated, as am I. Bud had been almost 13 years old and she was a baby that I had handfed with my 2 original cockatiels Romeo and Juliet. We've had Honey since she was 8 weeks, and was quite possibly the sweetest cockatiel I've ever had. And Casper was my first white faced. We miss them all so very much!

Thanks so much! I would have never believed that something like that could happen. They have really strong cages and we finally had a nice warm day with some sun. They loved going outside all of the time. The kids don't blame me, but I was the one that put them out there. It's still hard to believe that they're all gone.

Thanks so much to everyone for all of your sympathies. To leave the house and have everything be ok and then to come back and lose 3 members of the family is something I wish no one else ever has to go through. I think not being able to say goodbye is the worst. My wonderful husband cleaned up everything so that my children and I wouldn't have to see. But the Hawk refused to leave for 3 days. Every time I opened the back door it was there still waiting. My parakeet Lemon was the only bird to survive.

Thanks again to everyone!

Sorry to hear what happened, I have only had my Teil a few months and we have already bonded quite strongly, the thought of that happening is quite shocking, but you can’t blame yourself, you weren’t to know what was going to happen.

Sorry for your losses, Take Care of yourself.

Jenny

I know it's probably very difficult to see some positives in this tragic event, but I appreciate you informing the board. My tiels enjoy nice sunny days as well, and now I know not to keep them outside unsupervised.
This is so very sad, I would think it uncommon for a larger bird to come so close to your house just to attack your tiels? I am very sorry for your loss, I don't remember who, but someone has a sig that says something like 'a horrible accident can serve as a warning'. I am sorry about your tiels, but I am also thankful you shared your story so other board members can prevent accidents from happening. Once again I'm sorry for your fids, take care.
