View Full Version : Computer experts...What's the best way?
I need to find out what the best way is to back up my files, specifically all these pictures I've collected. The cheaper option would be best but I want something can safely hold all these pics without a chance of them getting lost..etc. I have 6.87 GB in pictures (total 8959 files)... I was thinking cd's but I'm not sure how many I would need or if that's too many for that many gb's...
You can pick up small portable hard drives for reasonably cheap depending on how big you want it to be. Dad got an 80GB one recently for under $100 so i'm certain you could get one smaller for even less. :) I back up my photos onto one of my own too, and it's so easy.
That's a good price for 80 GB...I guess I don't have as many as I thought..lol (compared to you) hehe. I'll look it up now. Thanks!
I don't have anywhere near a full portable hard drive. :p I think i have about 15GB of photos.
 Good I don't feel so bad now..lol

I use Cd's and I normally buy CD-RW's that way If i end up backing up things I no longer need I can delete it later and re use the cd
I buy cd's that have 700mb on them, how much I can put on one, really depends on what i'm putting on it, and how big that file is, Like with my music i've backed up Some cd's i can get 25 songs on, Others only have 10 to 21 songs on them depending how long they are
Most of my picture cd's have about 20 different folders on them and each folder normally has about 60 or more photos in each one
I haven't really backed up my files well my pictures at least, Since I started using Photobucket.. but maybe I need to reconsider that and do it, I just got it in my head that Photobucket will be here for ever , LOL

You could burn them to dvd's. I would back up your photos/files in case something happens to you computer  I have a program that lets me make back up disks and tells me when I need to make a new one.
Yup, that's what I'm scared off. I'll be getting an external hard drive from one of my old coworkers..Just spoke to him.
One of my friends ended up having an extra hard drive (he fixes computers as a second job) and I kind of reminded him how he never got me a christmas pressie...:p..so...I got one! :p:D
It's a 250GB...I still need an usb cord which he didn't have an extra to give me but that's ok...he just saved me about a hundred dollars so I can't complain.:D
