what do blood feathers look like on budgies.

They can be easily identified on the underside of the wing by red inside the feather shaft.

Blood feather on any bird is a new feather that still has blood in the shaft. As the pin grows out it still has blood feeding it-as the pin turns into a feather the blood retracts. As Laura said, you should see a reddish tint under the feather in the middle. This is an example of an almost grown blood feather http://photos.imageevent.com/carrieanne/lovethosetielsfolder/pictures/websize/BloodFeather1.jpg . A broken blood feather can cause alot of lost blood since it acts like a hose.

Blood feathers to me look really sore on a bird. But Iam sure they are not sore unless they break. When I first seen Spikes blood feathers on his head (crest) I thought his head was bleeding it scared me  Here is a link that might help http://www.cockatielcottage.net/feathers.html

Just keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn't break them. My Suki keeps breaking her blood feathers. But she has a couple now and is doing a great job keeping them in.

Just a question - is she clipped? I've found the clipped birds to be more likely to break the blood feathers. Suki is clipped and she is always breaking them, my other two keets are flighted and never break them.
