ok i went out today for a couple hours i came home and was verry sad the mother of the chicks was on the floor of the cage and is dead now the chicks will be ok as dad is there and the chicks are eating seed and millet and everything else but the eggs she laid will not be incubated

That is terrible :( Mabey she got egg bound?
???? The mom died? How many eggs did she have so far..it could be that she was egg bound. I'm really sorry.

she started laying them january 9th last egg was laid this morning like it was supose to i did the flash light thing with the eggs only one was fertile so i,m taking a chance and put it with penelope and her eggs i just hope and pray she accepts it

depending when this one was laid the normal is 18-21 days depends when she actually started to incubate it
ok i just checked on penelope and she is sitting on the egg still thats over 3.5 hours so i guess she is not going to reject it
i,m going to keep one of the babies from penelope and sky(aka millie who is in fact a male not female)

that's good to hear. What I was acctually asking is how big of a difference is it between when the two clutches are due?

poly started laying the 9th penelope the 10th

strange thing is i open the nest box she gets up lets me see the eggs i close it she sits back down

Sorry to hear about her. :( But glad to hear that Penelope has accepted it...
That's great that the clutches are close together. Hopefully she won't have any problems feeding all those chicks. Make sure she's getting lots of good food to keep his and her energy up.
I'm sorry you lost the mum bird. :( That's great that her egg has been accepted by Penelope though.

just to let you all no that stretch keeps going over to the cage then he looks at me as if saying dad where is poly then he comes and sits on my shoulder for a good hour or 2
That's sad...I'm sure he's really upset.

it is terrible watching another animal grieve....
but i think it is an important process, it is better to grieve then get happy again, than to not grieve at all!
so sweet of Penelope to accept the egg!
