Rio went in today to have the egg removed, and it was discovered that the egg had adhered to not just the cloaca, but to her intestines as well. The vet was able to remove the egg completely (in pieces) with minimal damage. She would have been fine. However, on the 2nd to last stitch to close her up, she crashed. They did everything they could, but they were unable to revive her.
She felt no pain, she was completely under anesthesia when she passed. We had her cremated in a private 'service', and she now resides in two urn memorial pieces. We'll be keeping one, the other will go to my Grandfather. She bonded very strongly with him when I left home for a bit.
DH and I are doing alright, though I'll say that I'm faring much better than my husband.
