mom attacks baby

:tiel5:ok i was at a friends place he wanted to no some stuff with his baby budgies his hen had 6 chicks well while we were talking the mom started attacking the one chick to the point the one tail feather is damaged so i told him well they are all weaned you have a spare cage i would put mom in the spare cage till you sell all the babies not to worry baby is doing good i did say keep a close eye on the baby for a few days so i held moma while he set up the spare cage thats why i keep telling people have a spare cage you never no when you will need it:tiel4:

Yup, take a way the mom and let the dad continue the feedings. Make sure he catches on that he needs to take over-might take a few hours. If he doesn't start your friend will have to do handfeedings.

chicks are fully weaned they are eating like pigs

That could be why she's attacking them, because they're fully weaned and she thinks they need to be on thier own

and they're irritating her

I'm sure baby birds aren't too much differnt then kittens and puppies, I know with all my dogs that's had pups once the pups hit a certain age and still try to feed from mom or dad they do get nipped, growled at and the occasional attacked by the parent because it's time to "leave the nest" no pun intended really! :-)
