This weekend we lost 2 of our pets :(

Our guinea pig died on Friday, she was 6 years old, a good life for a guinea pig. The kids were devastated. Her sister is still with us, the kids keep giong outside to her hutch to make sure she's still alive.

On Saturday night Gypsy our baby Cockatiel became sick very suddenly. We were taking her to the 24 hr vet but sadly, she died in the car on the way

I have no idea what happened to her. I think there was something wrong from birth. She didn't grow any bigger than the day we got her.

We're all very sad, she was a lovely little bird, we'll miss her very much. It's so horrible looking into an empty cage. We are getting another tiel next week though.

Oh no! Sorry to hear about your losses :( What sort of illness did Gypsy have? Please make sure you clean her cage thoroughly and disinfect it - maybe toss any toys you can't clean just in case she had anything that may pass to your new baby when you bring it home. You may already plan to do this, but just in case :)
What a hard weekend for you :(

I would also clean the cage really well and get new toys and perches.

Thank you. The other guinea pig is still with us :), the kids go and check on her every day.

I have no idea how our tiel died. We had her out of her cage after tea like we always did and noticed she was losing balance. She just went downhill from there so quickly. We were taking her to the vet but she died in the car on the way :(

We got her from a pet shop, they said she was a few days out of the nest. A friend of mine got one the same week from the same shop. Her tiel is twice the size ours was. Ours was the same size as the day we bought her. We fed her and cleaned her cage every day, I researched how to look after her and I thought I'd done everything right . I really do think there was something wrong with her from day 1. It's so sad. She was a beautiful little girl.

I have soaked the cage in Milton and will get new perches and toys for our new tiel.

We bought a new baby from a breeder, she has hand reared them and is currently weaning him (or her). He should be ready to come and live with us in a week or so. We are soooo excited!!

Once you've had a tiel you can't live without one

I agree.

It sounds like your girl was always poorly.:( I hope the new, hand-reared baby soon settles in and becomes part of the family.

Are you going to let your children name the new arrival? :excited:

All the best, and don't forget the pics!

We've already named him Alan.

When we played this video Gypsy would go off, she loved it and she'd chirp alan alan Steve....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzypOnklG60&feature=related

We've ordered another one from the breeder, she has eggs ready to hatch and that one will be Steve :)
