Spikes nails were giving me scratches all over my hands, so I decided it was time for a clip. I don't know if I waited to long, because I just cut the very tip off and he started bleeding
I was just trying to make them a bit duller not shorter. Just the very tip and he starts to bleed :( I could even see that I did not cut into his quick.
Needless to say I feel horrible and gave up. He went back in his cage overheated and grumpy and put one foot up to rest. Why would he bleed so much just from a tiny little clip
Iam thinking of just taking him to the pet store next time he needs a clip. But I don't like the idea of them taking care of their birds and than clipping Spikes nails. What should I do

Wow I have never heard of the nails bleeding by just cutting the tip  did you only do the one nail and it bleed? if you didn't cut into the quick I would think the same thing would happen even with the pet store doing it.

After he heals you can just use a nail file to do it. That's what I use most of the time since my babies' nails don't acctually get long..just sharp from time to time. He'll be ok as long as the bleeding stopped. I wouldn't take him to petshop for it either-they'll probably butcher it.

I put some quick stop on him. He is fine now :) He is not mad at me at all :) I just feel so bad it was quite a bit of blood :o

How could he be mad at you, you take such good care of him :D I would do what Aly said just use a nail file to do it, that should take care of the sharp ends.

instead of a pet store, a vet will trim nails and beaks and I'd trust them way more then i would a pet store

I haven't had to trim any of mine, They all have pedi cure perches and swings and they work pretty good ;)

Poor Spike.

The pet store that I bring my guys to uses a nail file instead of a clip. I was watching them.

Personally, I am too afraid to do it myself. And they like it because we always leave with treats and a couple of toys as a reward.

Don't be so hard on yourself. You treated the bleeding right away and you asked for advise on what to do. It's obvious you take good care of the little guy.

awww thanks  I think a nail file will be the way to go. Mabey I can get an automatic one. It will be easier on my Mom who holds him for me
