Today Smokey went over the rainbow bridge . One minute you were fine the next you were gone. You loved to eat off our plates , Whistle at our toes and socks, You loved to cuddle and give affection. You will be missed our sweet

I am not certain , I was turning off my ps3 and he flew off the cage and when i turned around he was laying on his back and one of his eyes was bulging out , He wasn't moving his head but was breathing . There was a basket near where he was that i think he may have got his head stuck in or something but he didn't make any noises so i don't know what happened .

If there was no obvious trauma besides the eye, that sounds like a stroke to me. I'm so sorry for your loss. :( Hugs to your family and your flock.

Thanks guys . As for him flying into a wall its not possible cause he flew straight to the ground . As for a stroke that could be a possibility, Although he was only a little over 2 years old he was on of the smallest cockatiels iv'e seen so i wonder if it is possible he had some kinda of problem before i got him. He acted normal the last few days ate and drank fine the only thing is he did not want to be held by anyone but my husband .

It's possible he had some kind of malformation in his brain that predisposed him to a stroke at a young age. Brain tumor is another possibility, but you probably would have seen other symptoms first. The bulging eye is classic elevated intracranial pressure, so that leads me to think aneurysm/hemorrhagic stroke.

I hope you don't think that sounds morbid of me. I just know that I would want answers if this happened to my bird, so I hope maybe this could help. I work with human stroke survivors, and that's really what it sounds like to me. At least if that is what happened, you can know that it was most likely very fast and painless for him.

would you be able to bring him in for a necropsy? they could find out his cause of death that way.
