I losted my cockatiel Monroe today. I noticed a few days ago he was acting odd. Last night he starting acting sick. I took him to the vet today. They were about to give him fluids and he died right then and there. I wish I had done more for him and I feel so bad about him being gone. He was such a sweet little guy. He was a rescue and he came from an abusive home before me. He'd been sick a number of times and always pulled through, but not this time. I'm going to miss him and his unique personally.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You gave him a happy home and love. What more could a tiel ask for? He could have died in that abusive home and never known what it was like to be cared for. You should take comfort in that you made his life better.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Good for you, taking him into your home and making him comfortable. I'm sure he will always remember you.

I do know how you feel. Ava began to act "differently" one thursday night and the next time i saw her on sunday she looked "sick." We took her to the emergency vet and waited for an hour in our own room (to reduce her stress). They made us keep her in the cage "to reduce stress" but i wish i had just held her the whole time. She just loved to be cuddled to my chest...anyway, she ended up collapsing while we were waiting. I held her while my boyfriend alerted the vet and she slept peacefully in my arms. She woke in a panic when they took her away. They put her on oxygen and planned to crop feed her throught the night (it was about 1:30 by this time). I paid the estimated $280 and left in hopes of picking her up the next morning to take her to the bird vet in the area. About 2 hours after we had left the clinic, they called and told me that she hadn't made it. We picked her up and buried her beneath a mimosa tree in my backyard. We lost her on October 2nd...in a period of 3 days my baby had gone from a healthy little love bug to an off-balanced fluffed and weak soul.

Thank you all for you're sympathy and well wishes. I hope he did know how much I loved him and I would have done more given more time. I'm glad to know I was able to give him a good home he would never have known otherwise. He's is missed by me and the flock.
