View Full Version : What should I feed a young tiel?
Once I bring my baby home...and he just been weaned...is it safe to feed him the good foods (greens, fruits and veggies) or just stick to the seeds and gradually introduce the other foods? I've printed the list of good/not good lists (so helpful) and posted it in my kitchen.

I would start introducing them right away, just giving seeds is not enough, he might not take to them right away some do easily some take a little longer but keep offering them everyday and mix it up a bit. :)
I agree-that's the best time to introduce veggies, fruits, etc. Seed is just base food but other stuff is very important.
sounds like my 2 year old daughter :D Once she started eating regular grown up foods, I have a hard time getting her to eat veggies. Fruits she loves though.
Thanks for the advice!
Babies are so much more adventurous than adult birds and they don't have any old habits that need breaking, so it's definitely good to start with as much fresh and cooked variety as possible to set him up for a healthy lifestyle. :D I'd be trying him on all types of veggies, some fruit, brown rice, bean mixes, egg, etc.

I would start right away as well. But I would buy the seeds and pellets that your baby was weaned on to. Just so you don't change everything at once. Moving to a new home is stressfull enough ;)
