This is Ruby our rabbit. She lives with us and Dooby in the computer room. Ever since she was a six week old baby, she has slept on her back, that's really odd because if you put a rabbit on it's back, they go into a trance, which is very handy for nail clipping etc. This barmy bunny SLEEPS on her back!!! We have had rabbits for 12 years, we have bred them and at one time we had 14 rabbits, they all went naturally and we missed having them around, so way back in August, we got Ruby, I just thought I'd show you how she sleeps.

LOL!!! She's so cute asleep like that!!

We've been doing rabbit handling at school and one way to restrain them is to scruff them and flip them over in your arms. Sure...sounds easy in theory but these rabbits weigh 6.5kg. I feel like i'm going to rip its head off when i scruff it.

Yep, that's the way to do it Bea, that way you don't hurt them and they can't hurt you.

Except when they snap your arm in half from being so darn fat!

They're meat rabbits, so HUGE! The whole class gasped when we first saw them. Big, white, red eyes, they're SCARY!! Nothing at all like your cute bunny. I wouldn't mind at all if they were like her.

I've just sent the photos through to my daughter to see and she said that the cage is too small!! I'd just like to say that it was the angle that I took the photo at. Ruby's cage is 123cm x 62cm, so she does have plenty of room in there. I wouldn't want anybody else to think she is squashed up. lol.

She is adorable! How are rabbits as pets? I simply love them but am having a tough decision between them or guinea pigs or rats :(

I have searched on forums and I see they need to be spayed, and need a lot of out of cage time to romp around... but how are they in general? Are they THAT demanding as some people say? Do you reckon I could have one while being in college? (I highly doubt I would/could, it's just a question!)

Don't worry about it. People who make cages for rabbits don't seem to make big ones for them. Cookies isn't the biggest but it's the biggest here that i can find. I wish they made them bigger. Looks like ruby has more then enough room to stretch out and with lots of out time the cage is fine. Should have seen the first cage i ever bought for cookie. Can you say small. It was maybe 2 1/2' long and 1' or so wide. He out grew that quickly.* just saw this thread as Nathan bumped it up*

They make great pets. They will take as much attention as they can. Well cookie does anyways lol. They can stink if not fixed. Well cookie did anyways but that problem is fixed now. They love to chew but i'm sure that's something you would know owning gerbils (i think it was) a while ago because there teeth keep growing. I think they would do fine if you were in school. As long as when you come home you were to let them out for a hour or two. Learning how to flip them is a MUST. It helps in so many ways like clipping there nails and checking there teeth. Also a good way to transport them from room to room if they just don't like being lifted up. I love my cookie monster no matter what he chews on me or if it's biting me in places he shouldn't he's a real sweetie. Not much of a person cuddle bunny as he'd rather run run run but he has his moments. I've heard lops are more cuddly but it also depends on the rabbit.

I don't find them that demanding. When i walk into my room cookie runs to the door wanting some cuddles but if your not in the mood he knows it. I've fallen asleep in the room with him out to awaken with him sleeping on the side of my bed with me. He will lie down under the birds cage and sleep for ages there. The Biggest issue is making sure they don't chew anything. If i had room I'd buy him a exercise pin and let him live in that.
