It is with much sadness that I regret to inform you of Phoenixs disappearance. I opened the nest box this morning like I do everyday it was normal routine except this morning as soon as I opened ot he flew out over skies , I spent 2 hours walking around searching for him his mate Rosie was screeching for him will he return to her ? He was flying around singing to her high in the sky but then he disappeared I have put an ad on gumtree and now I'm hoping and praying that he returns <3
Your free now, I love you forever and always Phoenix <3

Poor Pheonix! I hope he comes back! I'm a little confused... the nest box was out in the open? I don't have an outside aviary... but I guess I was under the impression that the nest boxes were inside the aviaries.
I have been told that dusk and dawn are the best times to search for lost birds. Partly because it is for the most part.. a quiet time... but it is also eating time. Being that you have an aviary, this might not work.. but if you have an extra cage.. set it up near the aviary on the grass with some food and treats in it with the doors open. He just might come back. You can't very well leave the nest box open for him to return to. It's too bad you couldn't rig up a dummy nest box near that one but with some way to keep him in and her out of it. I wish you the best in your search for your bird.

I do have a spare cage I think I'm gonna do that :) it's extremely hot here at the moment and Im really scared. Do you think he'll come back if he hears her calling him??

He just might... I would also post notices at your local grocery stores, libraries, gas stations, police station, humane shelters, vets and of course, pet stores. This will get the word out this bird already has a home should someone else find him.

Also, as I said before, I an not used to Aviaries.. but I really think the nest boxes are usually mounted inside them. Perhaps you can research this and if this is the case, move your nest box inside so this doesn't happen again.

im sorry dekey:( I really hope you get Phoenix back! It might be best to move the nest box onto the inside of the aviary to prevent another bird escape in the future.( I cant remember if she has any eggs in there but if she does then dont move the nest box)

You could post some ads online though, on your local classifieds website or there are bird lost and found websites you can post on, www.911parrotalert.com, www.parrotalert.com, etc. Hopefully he will stick around because of Rosie though!
Oh I didnt realize you posted that you put an ad online already lol I always read through posts too fast and miss stuff!

Hopefully he will come back to Rosie. The problem in this case is that he is not tame so he probably won't be inside the cage you left for him and if he did enter it, he might leave when you approach. If you find him around the aviary on the ground or anything, throw a sweater or something over him to keep him from flying away (or a bird net if you have one).

If that happened to my boy my mom would go nuts. when she was my age she had a cockatiel named pekkerhead(i know i know) and my dad when they were still together had this huge loud truck. the tiel flew away and never came back. and his wings were clipped..
She would go nuts trying to find our birds if they flew away!
i am so sorry!!!

Well I don't think many people would want him as a pet because he's not hand tamed

Any untamed bird can be tamed...so it's possible for someone experienced with cockatiels to have made a pet out of him.

Hey- My friend found Grey flying around outside, took him in knowing nothing about birds, and made a pet out of him. She kept him and worked with him even though he was hostile and a hisser. When she felt like he needed a better home, she found one- Me. There is always hope. I wish everyday that I could find his original owner to let them know he is okay and being cared for.
