Maya

I just got a Cockatiel 2 days ago. Her name is Maya. I had a Cockatiel before. Her name was Cutipie. I only had Cutiepie for 1 year and she died at 1 year and 3 months old. She died this past December. You can't imagine how distraught I was. I loved her so much. She died of PDD (Proventricular Dialation Disease). My vet said she got it from the store I got her at...either that, or she was born with it from whomever bred her. Either way, Bird Jungle in Hartsdale, NY the store I got her from is a horrible parrot store. They do not quarantine there babies and throw them all with one another. So, this disease that my poor little bird got was most likely from how she was treated at that store. PDD can only be transmitted from other birds wheter through there feces, feather dust or possibly airborne. I am mentioning this because she got sick, I took her to the vet and she died the next morning. It was quick and unstoppable. Cockatiels mask there illness until its too late. Maya is from a breeder who never encounted that illness so I am praying she is safe from this horrible disease. If anyone wants info, ask me. I don't want to see birds go through this. Cutiepie had this from when I got her, and it took a year for it to come out. Its like a cancer that hides in your body until one day, it comes out. Well, I look forward to being part of this forum.

Hi, nice to see you here!
That is too bad about Cutiepie :( I know it hard to lose a pet. I have had budgies in the past, and they never lasted long. My last one was approximately 4 years old (a little older, cause I had it for 4 years).

And Maya is a beautiful name. I am adopting 2 tiels from Kirby (another member here), and the females name is also Maya.

Welcome to the forums. Unfortunately most pet stores don't quarantine new birds and don't remove sick ones, that's why most people recommend buying from a breeder (although sometimes they're no better). Anyway, i hope Maya is a healthy baby and will be with you for a long and happy life. :D We would love to see some photos of her if you have some. :thumbu:
