Hey everyone :( I have horrible news to report...
The other day I told you guys I asked for an update on my beautiful Disney (cinnamon pearl hen I had, you can see pics of her in my photo gallery) from the breeder I traded her to. Tonight I get this e-mail :(
"Nathan, I'm afraid I have some sad news for you. Disney started to lay eggs in the big flight so I set her up in a breeding cage with the male I suspect might have been the father as he always roosted beside her. Despite getting calcium and trace mineral supplements, she prolapsed... one of her eggs broke inside of her (peritonitis) and when she tried to lay this egg, it pulled part of her internal structure out with it. She would have perished regardless as once an egg breaks inside a hen and the fluid gets into the bloodstream, it poisons the hen. I was completely inconsolable and I mourn her passing still. The male was lost without her and being a first time dad, had no idea what to do with the 2 eggs she had laid. Without any brooding, the embryos couldn't grow if indeed they might have been fertile. I'm so sorry to be the bearer of this awful news as I know it will break your heart as much as it did mine. Disney must have been quite low in her calcium reserves for this to occur. I always provide supplements to my breeding hens to avoid this kind of tragedy. There was nothing I could do to stop her from laying as her egg follicles were in full production... she would have laid regardless. Again, I'm so very sorry... I miss her...she was so sweet..."
Im so sad right now :( Disney was the sweetest, most cuddly, lovable, goofy, gorgeous baby tiel I ever saw and had. I really like the breeder I traded her to (for Memphis) and am not mad at them what so ever. This is just a freak accident that I thought I would share.
Im so devastated, I can't believe she is gone :( *sigh* I can't believe it. I didnt get to say goodbye :o *tear*
