Paco passed away recently at the ripe old age of 26.
My family got Paco, a gorgeous lutino Cockatiel, when I was 10 years old...he was our first bird and I grew up with him. He often spent evenings on my shoulder, with his little face mashed into my ear, fast asleep and snoring softly. :) He lived for a head scritch.
He stayed with my parents when I moved out of state to go to college. (At that point, I got CJ, who I've had for 18 years now.) Paco lived with my parents for many more years, and as he got older, he grew very fond of my cousin Danielle, who spent quite a bit of time at my parents' house.
When my parents retired and moved across the country about 4 years ago, Danielle asked to keep Paco, and they decided that at his advanced age, that would be easier on him than a move across the country, especially since he loved her so much. So, Paco moved in with Danielle and her family and lived out his last years very happy with them.
I was very sad to hear that he had passed away, but it was very peaceful, and I'm confident that he lived the most happy, loving life that a little bird possibly could.
In memory of Paco...
