As I've said before, my latino is a super hard flier. He flies even with clipped wings. He also will stand in or on the cage and rappidly flap his wings, regardless of what is around him and what he might be bashing his wings into.

Well, that said, it's not uncommon for him to break some blood feathers. They usually don't actually bleed, but just fill up the shaft.

Of course this has happened lately, and while disapointed, I wasn't surprised. However, they were out yesterday, and then in the cage while I rode my horse, and then I let them out again last night. Of course the first thing I notice on my yellow bird is a red nostril.

I would assume he either bashed his head into a toy (he shakes his head roughly sometimes trying to get a neck rub on things) or that Birdie may have bit him.

Of course this this is upsetting, as I know she's angry, but generally it's all verbal. Birdie screams at everybody, nearly all the time. If she bit Cousteau, then should I remove him? Or remove her? And how can I be sure it was even her?

The three (Boomer, Birdie, Cousteau) have been together about 6 or 7 months, and Martha joined the almost 3 months ago. Nobody has gotten hurt before (except for when I know he bashes his wings a little)

They now live with 2 budgies, but I've never seen any squabbles between the budgies and tiels.

I don't want to seperate prematurely, but I also don't want him to get hurt again. Got some advice? He really does seem fine. He flies around and was eating a noodle yesterday before his nostril incident. He's a happy bird, even still. I'm afraid to just "assume" it was Birdie though.

Him and Martha share a perch at night, Birdie sleeps on the swing, Boomer sleeps on the food dish, and the budgies have their own stick also.

I would just keep an eye on them. If they are really hurting each other they should be separated. Hopefully it was just an accident though :)

I hope it was just an accident. I saw him this morning trying to rub his face with his toys. He could have poked it just right into the nostril and maybe abraized it when he shook his head? They really don't fight. It's just Birdie, the evil. She screams. She's verbally abusive, but hasn't bit in a long time.

I think I figured out what happened. Last night I was sitting in my livingroom, lights out and it was about 2:30am (I get off work at 2am). I had the bedroom door open, but the lights off. I sneek into bed while the birds are sleeping. Sometimes Boomer whispers to me "goodmorning" so I say "goodnight" and then he gets quiet again! lol

ANyway,
I was sitting out here and hear flapping! It doesn't stop then I hear some upset noises
so I run in and turn on th light. Birdie, Cousteau and Martha are on the floor of the cage. Cousteau and Birdie have their wings up, but Cousteau just looks confused, and Birdie was pissed off. She gets very angry sometimes and the bummer is that she can't just be mad and hiss or bite once- she has to do it until you make her go away. When she gets upset, she stays upset for a long while. Perhaps one of them went to get a drink, and woke the other up, and they fell, and so Birdie got upset?

They verbally squabble sometimes, but will share food off the same dinner plate, noodles, corn, rice. There's no fighting or anger. I she mostly gets upset when she gets startled, but if she's biting his wings, then what? One was bleeding again. I would assume Birdie bit it, but maybe he bashed it in on his way down to the floor?

:( They don't fight though.

I would think he probably hit himself on the way down, it sounds like a night fright where one gets spooked for whatever reason and they all start once one gets going, I have had that happen to mine the best thing to do for them if you haven't already is give them a little night light, I put a small one into the walls by there cages and its stopped them from having them.

I'm home from 2am on, and this is the first time I've ever experienced it. :( I'll look into getting a nightlight, but it's really not too dark in there until I get home. My bedroom faces the parking lot of my apartments, and there are lights out there. The blinds are still open until I crawl into bed, that's when I shut them and pull a blanket over the windows! lol (the daylight is evil when you work nights- sun comes up at 4am, and I've just fallen asleep!)

He's doing well though, flying, and not bleeding. His nose is good too, can hardly tell anything happened.
