As I've said before, my latino is a super hard flier. He flies even with clipped wings. He also will stand in or on the cage and rappidly flap his wings, regardless of what is around him and what he might be bashing his wings into.
Well, that said, it's not uncommon for him to break some blood feathers. They usually don't actually bleed, but just fill up the shaft.
Of course this has happened lately, and while disapointed, I wasn't surprised. However, they were out yesterday, and then in the cage while I rode my horse, and then I let them out again last night. Of course the first thing I notice on my yellow bird is a red nostril.
I would assume he either bashed his head into a toy (he shakes his head roughly sometimes trying to get a neck rub on things) or that Birdie may have bit him.
Of course this this is upsetting, as I know she's angry, but generally it's all verbal. Birdie screams at everybody, nearly all the time. If she bit Cousteau, then should I remove him? Or remove her? And how can I be sure it was even her?
The three (Boomer, Birdie, Cousteau) have been together about 6 or 7 months, and Martha joined the almost 3 months ago. Nobody has gotten hurt before (except for when I know he bashes his wings a little)
They now live with 2 budgies, but I've never seen any squabbles between the budgies and tiels.
I don't want to seperate prematurely, but I also don't want him to get hurt again. Got some advice? He really does seem fine. He flies around and was eating a noodle yesterday before his nostril incident. He's a happy bird, even still. I'm afraid to just "assume" it was Birdie though.
Him and Martha share a perch at night, Birdie sleeps on the swing, Boomer sleeps on the food dish, and the budgies have their own stick also.
