View Full Version : For those of you that take alot of pics...
I have a silly question for you. I have constantly tried to keep all the pictures I have organized but it seems that I have way too many and the folder system is not very organized at all...Any advice? How do you keep all your pics organized?:o Right now I have categories like Eating, Flight..but with 10 of them it's not working...
Every month i make a new folder (e.g. Pet Photos - October '07) and within that i make a folder for each lot of photos i take (e.g. October 10, 2007 - aviary). I also have a folder within each months folder called Forum Size where i put all the photos i resize for forums. At the end of each month i back all my photos up on our portable hard drive and start a new folder for the next month. :)

Oh my goodness Bea........that's organised.
Well, we go out and about most days to take photos. Between us we must take about 600-700 photos when we go out. On my computer they are in day order, then I back them up onto a DVD still in day order and just jot down roughly what is on there. Darryl does the same but doesn't jot down what's on there, so when he wants a particular photo, he has to go through hundreds of DVDs to get it. LOL!! I keep promising myself that I will sort the photos out better, but really I don't see how I can.

I save all my pictures to my Documents and there I've got folders labled MY KIDS, kids(name) birthday party, BIRDS, OTHER STUFF and then I upload them ALL to photo bucket where again I've got a TON of sub folders, I've got xmas, halloween, easter, Birthdays, one just titled MY KIDS (that's mainly the kids school pics or pics I take on a average day), I've got on that says My Pets , it's all the pics of the dogs/cat I've got back home, I've got one that says birds, with 3-4 sub folders in it , new birds with date i got them, one for the cockatiels, one of different views of tweety my budgie(from when i was fiquring out wht mutation he/she is, and i've got many more
it makes it easier for me to upload them all to photo bucket, because I do not have a genuine copy of windows so every 30 days I am re installing windows and I lose everything if i forget to back it up which i do alot, So having all my pics on photo bucket I have less Cd's floating around the house and I don't lose any pics UNLESS i forget to up load them BEFORE i reinstall widows
I don't know which way to go..I just know this way is not working. I have 10 birds, pics of family here, family in romania, 2 cats, fish, dog..my house, car, places where I went, scenery, backrounds...it's just getting really complicated. For the birds alone I have thousands of pics..I'm afraid to try and see how many are really there. I have to think and figure something out...

wow you guys sure are organized ;) I just started taking my camera to Walmart and transfering them on to cd's I didn't realize it was so cheap on 2.97 a cd and you can put over a hundred pictures on it and it gives you a card with all the pictures and the numbers listed so you can reference back, I also put most of my pic's on photobucket but I haven't organised them into folders on there.

it's even cheaper to do it your self , if you have a scanner, or if you're using a digital camera and have a Cd burner on your computer
I buy about 100 - 150 Cd's when i buy them for around 10 bucks, i have not even bought a spool of them in a good 3 years, and I burn my music on to my cd's I've got TONS and TONS of those, I put ALL My pictures ( a couple thousand) on to disks, and all my other stuff i've got saved to my computer I want to keep like, Clip art, resumes, Articles I save off the net, just tons of stuff, and when I burn a cd depening on how long the songs are i get any where from 18- 21 songs on ONE Cd
then when I do my pictures each Cd holds around 800 MB so that is on a average about 15 different folders, with at least 50-75 pictures, graphics, documents in each folder
if you don't have a Cd Burner but have a Empty bay on your computer you can get a decent on for around 50 bucks or So , I've gotten them for 10 before and a friend of mine is still using that one and i bought it about 10 years ago
I try to buy CD-RW which are re writable cd,s but if i can't find them on sale i just got with the CD - R's
i also look for sale ad's at like staples and other Office supply stores, when they've got them on sale with rebates I normally get as many as I can because you end up paying little to nothing for them once u get the rebate back

good idea silly me never even thought of that ....lol I have a cd burner and burn music cd's all the time so you would think that it would have crossed my mind :p
I should either buy a thumb drive or some cd to put all these pics on- they are taking up alot of space and I am sure I don't need ALL of them here 24/7...
It says I have 2.95 GB (3,178,698,126 bytes) and 3993 files, 124 folders...
I need to do some serious clean up...
I recently deleted most of my photos of my actual computer as they were backed up, i suddenly went from having about 3GB free space to 13GB free space. I nearly fell off my fitball (i use a ball instead of a chair, hehe). That's several years worth of photos though...
I HIGHLY recommend buying a portable hard drive, they're not terribly expensive, have lots of storage space, and you can just use them like a giant memory stick. Very, very useful. They're also small. If you had to evacuate in a hurry it would be incredibly easy to grab that rather than a pile of CDs.

All i use to photobucket. other wise my computer does it al for me. every time i add new picturs on it it will say the date added and make is really easy to find. for photobucket i add a album with the type of bird like budgie and in this album i add the month like sept 07 and iw ill add picutres to it. After that month is over i add a new month and go fromt here. not the neastest but works for me
It would take years to upload all my full size photos to photobucket. :p Plus you would have to save them back to the computer if you wanted to print some.

Same here- plus I don't trust someone else with my pics- I really should back them up just in case since I can't get any of them back and most of them are really important to me...I have some on Photobucket but that's just what I post on here..
