Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum and new to cockatiels (birds) in general.
Couple of weeks ago I've bought an young cockatiel and now I am trying to learn how to live with him (I hope) and take care of him.
I will try to post some pics soon; just wanted to say "Hi" to the forum members.
Cheers,
Simon

Hi Nutmeg,
Thank you for the quick reply. I got him from what seemed to be a very reputable breeder/specialized store and got a lot of info and bags of what is suppose to be healthy food(s).
The only problem is that he doesn't like much the raw veggies I am suppose to give him - in general he doesn't like food that is "big".
Also, I've found that he loves honey nut Cheerios; I wonder if the honey part of them is healthy for them.
Best regards,
Simon

your welcome.
Well you could try boiling them or raw again just in smaller pieces.
If you want to give cheerios i would suggest finding them as plain or original because sugary or salty foods are not very good and only use sunflower seeds as treats they are very fattening and are like eating potatoe chips everyday to a bird

I only give him a few Cheerios with the other food time to time. No sunflower seeds yet, but I got some organic pumkin seeds that are suppose to be healthy (not so fat).

Hi Simon welcome to the forum :) with the veggies I would try different kinds in various ways raw, cooked etc..... till you figure out what he likes, favourites of mine are cooked corn and mixed veggies and they also love parsley and cooked pasta, I would stay away from the honey nut cherrios I would stick to plain ones, you don't want to give them anything with sugar in it.
Welcome to the forums Simon! :D

Welcome Simon,
I am pretty much a newbie also and have learned tons from the posts and forums. I'm sure you will also. I find my tiel likes broccoli, that's what I started her/him on. I slice off the flowerette part, I have since added other things, peas, green beans, and found he likes the spiral noodles. Oh, I read they like spicey things, I ate a Chimichanga and gave Snitch the pepper. He loved that.
Enjoy

Hello Simon, welcome to the forums. :D
With the veggies, offer him veggies every day even if he doesn't want to eat them, they'll eventually get into a routine that'll be expected and look forward to. Don't get discouraged either, or give up, just remember some 'tiels are very stubborn and have a particular food preference so it can take more time.
My 'tiels love corn and carrot, but they'll pretty much eat ANYTHING. They'll surprise you with what they'll end up loving when they try it after a few times. :p
