After much stressing and worrying about the big wide world i'll be entering next year and what i'll be doing with myself, i've just filled in an application form for Animal Technology at the local TAFE. Completing this course will let me assist in any number of occupations involving animals and i think it would be extremely interesting.

A visit to the careers advice people at my school put me off going with animals in favour of studying to do something that will make me lots of money (e.g. computing), but i found that looking at the suggested courses and reading the units that would be covered made me fill ill with worry about doing it. I wouldn't even look at an application form because it seemed too scary. But reading the things i would be learning for Animal Technologies makes me excited about how interesting all the units will be. :D Imagine going to school everyday to learn about ANIMALS!

If i don't get accepted into that i won't be too worried, my back up is doing a bridging course part time which will then let me study to become an accountant. It worked out well because the animal course is a postal application with a due date, while the accounting is apply anytime, so if the first doesn't work out there's no rush. I'll be really excited either way, as i have a plan now rather than just sitting and watching as my time at school runs out (only 5 weeks left, ARGH!!!!). :p

I get really really stressed when it comes to change, so it's pretty important that i do something i'm confident about. My parents helped to get me back on track with the animal idea, i was almost making myself sick with worry about failing at computing or not enjoying it. They really just want me to do SOMETHING which is why dad suggested i look into animals again.

My daughter Alexis is like that to Bea, she is really bad with change she gets easily stressed and very upset so I see first hand what it must be like for you, its so good that your parents are understanding and there for you, thats what I try to do with my daughter.

My mum finds it difficult to deal with. I gave her and dad **** when i was in grade 9 and i just wouldn't go to school i hated it so much. I ended up doing Distance Education for grades 9 and 10 which i actually think was good for me. It was stressful going back to normal school in grade 11, but i did it and i'm learning to manage my stress much better now. Mum gets very on guard anytime something big comes up thinking i'll just "quit" like i did in grade 9. I can see why, but it's tough when i need to talk. Dad's much more calm about it, and can be very helpful. :D

I think I might have told you this but I had the same problem with Alexis in grade 6 two years ago she refused to go to school it was to stressful for her she missed over 2 months she wouldn't even get out of bed and yes it was hard for me to deal with but I am getting better at understanding her they finally brought a social worker in and the school board thought that an Alternate Education school would be best for her, less stress small classes there is about 50-60 kids in the whole school and its very laid back usually they just send kids there for one year to get them on there feet but they decided Alexis wasn't ready to go back to a "normal" school so she is there again this year for grade 8 and its been absolutely wonderful for her this is the first time in her whole history of school that she hasn't missed any days she actually likes going to school but I am already starting to stress about next year as I know there is no way she will be able to function in a regular highschool I am hoping that they will allow her to stay in the Alter-Ed program for grade 9 as well.

I missed close to 2 months when i was having problems too. That school sounds perfect for people who have issues with being around lots of people. :D I hope she can stay as long as she needs to as well. Are there any smaller high schools she might be able to "move up" to? We looked at a small one here, only about 300 students from grades 7 to 10, still quite a lot but much smaller than most.

I wish you good luck! Either route you take, you're smart and will eventually find your way back to animals!:p I always wanted to be a vet- an avian vet...things never seem to work out as planned. As Laura said, I wish I was that smart when I was younger. Let us know how it goes!

pS. Working with animals beat working with humans any day!

There is not really any smaller high school's here except for the Alter-Ed I believe but I am not even sure if it goes past Grade 9, the school is going to discuss her case and we will have a meeting probably in a few months to determine what is best for her the problem with Alexis as well is not just getting her through the door which is so hard for her, academically she doesn't do well either, its not that she is not smart because she is, but they did alot of testing on her and she has what they call a deficit in executive functioning as well as a deficit in mental flexibility and working memory so I don't quite know how this will affect her in the long run.

I would love that too, but you have to get a higher university entrance score for vet studies than you do to become a doctor.

Here i think it's 5 years to become a vet, and a further 3 to specialize.

Yea- I wouldn't mind going to school..I'd be learning about something I do now anyway- it's just a money issue..The US has a pretty stupid working school system. You need money to go to school and you need to go to school to make money...go figure! If only there were two of me-

I have a big problem here. I knwo i want to do something with animals in my life but i'm not sure what. I'm inlove with birds but don't want to be a avian vet to have to see them sick. Breeding is not a option as its not a money puller lol. I have 2 years to figure out waht i'm doing though. Hoping i will find something.
