I have a new batch of chicks and am just wondering if I have their mutations correct. They are only days old. Two have white fluff and red eyes,(lutino or albino?) two have white fluff and black eyes (white face?) and one with yellow fluff and black eyes (normal?) There is another one hatching at the moment so I will let you know what he is!! Thanks for your help in advance!!:D

White fluff means Whiteface and red eyes mean Lutino. So you probably have Lutino Whiteface. Commonly called Albino. The one with black eyes could be anything almost. Gray, Cinnamon, Pearl or pied. What are the parents?

knowing the parents could give us a better idea.. but sueŽs right.. youŽve got two whiteface lutinos (red eyes) one whiteface (black eye) and a gray one (yellow)

yet to find out if the whiteface and the yellow is normal, pied, pearl, cinnamon, etc...

from the so far outcome IŽd say dad is whiteface lutino and mom whiteface or split whiteface....OR dad whiteface split lutino or normal split whiteface and lutino and mom whiteface or split to it...

No it's best to leave it alone. Is it late? has it been cheeping for more than 24 hours? Do you see a crack forming? It takes them a whole day to make it out. The only reason you should ever step in is if the egg membrane seems dried out. Of course the only way you will know that is if the chick has already started to crack it open.

It has been chirping for more than 24 hours and I cant see any evidence of the shell being broken anywhere. It is a bit late as the others are now 3-4 days old??

It can take up to 48-72 hours from chirpy egg to baby. Just make sure the humidity is good, as dry egg shells can make hatching more difficult. I regularly mist the nest box, Cookie and even the eggs lightly on occasion. :)

Well there had been still no progress this morning so I helped the little chick hatch. He was fine. He is another red eyed lutino or albino. He is a lot smaller than his siblings and had not been fed at all by late this afternoon so I bought him inside and fed him some diluted handrearing mix. I hope his parents start to feed him themselves!

They won't start feed the chick till about 24-48 hours after it hatches, so don't worry and you should of left the chick alone and not handfeed it but ohh well you didn't know!! Well thats great that he hatched eventhough you assisted it and be thankful that you only had to assist one chick as I had to assist all 4 of my chicks!!

If mine are not being fed by the second day I step in. I won't let a baby wait 48 hours. They generally don't either.

That's not the case with my previous clutches crazy4tiels88. The previous chicks all had full bellies about 2 hours after hatching.

The rule of thumb is actually 12 hours. I don't worry about them 'till day 2 (the day after hatching). If I see that the parents have not fed them by then. I will give the babies a bit of watery formula with Ornabac. I like to wait and see what the parents will do but I don't want to risk any babies.
