I have a male pearl pied cockatiel named Vulture and he is just starting to lose his pearl markings at 1 1/2 years old and I was wondering why it took so long? Don't they loose them at their first molt? He is on his second molt I think right now!! How long does it ussually take? Thanks Melissa & The Flock

Some don't lose all their pearling with the first molt. Some keep some of it indefinitely. Maybe Vulture will keep some of his. That would be nice.

You'll be lucky to have a peal that keeps his pearls, I love pearl 'tiels! :D

But like Sue said, some don't lose them. My pearl would have been white if she lost her pearls, but she's still beautiful with them. :p

Thanks alot guys!! Yeah he is fading out very slowly and I will post pictures soon of when he was a baby and now, as I handfed him since he was 10 days old and he was naked cause his mother plucked all his feathers out and thats why he is named Vulture as I thought I would never sell him as he took 3 months for all his feathers to grow and so I fell in love with him and kept him and he's beautiful now, he also loves Youtube videos epescially his video!! LOL

Piper loves Vultures "Pretty Bird" YouTube video. I play it for him a lot.

He seems like a real sweetie! He is beautifully marked. You were smart to keep him.
