Hello 'tiel lovers.
I have not had a bird for several years, but I rescued an abused white faced grey, about 3 weeks ago, from a rescue group.
Ash was pretty well plucked by his 3 lady friends-any special treatment I can give hom?
He is having a hard time, trying fruits & Veggies-any suggestions?
Ash has adjusted quickly to step up, head scratches & sitting on my shoulder.
What a good bird!
Thanks for listening.

Hi Jerry! Welcome to the forum. Ash would probably benefit from extra calcium right now as he is no doubt trying to produce some new feathers. Regular misting (2 or 3 times a week) will help him to be more comfortable during this process. Most 'tiels prefer veggies but only a few are keen on fruits. I find that fresh spinach attached to the cage bars with a clip is almost always welcomed. Sounds like a good bird! I'm glad he found you.

Welcome to the forums, and good on you for rescuing a tiel! :D

Though spinach lowers the body's ability to absorb calcium, so it might not be a good one to try at the moment. :) My guys have all gone for bok choy or pak choy straight away, they look similar to spinach, so they might be a good one to start with.

I'll have to try that. I had never heard about the evils of spinach.

Welcome Jerry. I lived in PA when I was in 6th grade. I went to an old country 2 room school with pot belly stove in the middle, and water pump and outhouse. Great memories.

I think you will enjoy it here. Everyone is so nice and very helpful. From my experience, Patience is the magic word to remember. If you make a visit to an avian vet he may suggest vitamins. :)

Welcome to the forum Jerry, the tiel your rescued is in a better home now, and I am sure you will do the absolute best for him. Like others have said feed him some veggies, or even go to the vet and see if they can give you anything to help aswell! :D Good Luck!

Welcome Jerry, sounds like you are doing great with Ash glade he found a good home with you. Try a few veggies and fruits with him, see which ones he likes. Jive and Waltz both love apple and lettuce.
All the best and lots of luck.

Hi, Jerry - welcome to TC and congrats on your new tiel! That was so sweet of you to rescue Ash. Sounds like he already knows what a great home he has now! :) I can't really recommend anything not already done by others but you're in good hands with them! Congrats again, and best of luck!
