Sad News

Our beloved Reggie is gone :( I just don't understand it I feed them this morning and changed there water and they were both fine hanging on the cage, I put the food in and they both jumped on the dish as usual and stuck there heads in together thats how they always ate both heads in the bowl side by side, about an hour ago I heard my daughter screaming and crying I went running as I thought she got hurt, she was sobbing so hard I couldn't even understand her and then I looked and I saw the most heartbreaking thing Reggie was lying at the bottom of the cage and Sparkle was sitting beside him just staring and let me tell you my heart is just broken for her and of course Reggie, there is no blood or trauma at all and his eyes were closed he just looked like he went to sleep he wasn't puffed up this morning and there poops look normal in there cage so I don't know what happened I am really worried about Sparkle not about her health as she looks ok but if budgies can grieve she is definetly doing it when I took him out she stil sat there looking for him even writing this I have tears in my eyes as they were so close I have never seen a pair as close as these two, I hope she will be ok I am giving her loads of extra attention and I hope its enough for now .... RIP my little blue boy...

Oh I am so, so, sorry, I've got tears in my eyes reading about it. It's just so sad when things like this happen and you don't know a reason.

:( Oh no....I'm so sorry Laura...I know how close Reggie and Sparkle were. Poor Sparkle..she's probably so sad. I don't even know what to say. I hope you're ok too. How old was he...? I can just imagine Sparkle sitting there looking at him...poor baby.

Aly he was about a year old way to young to go :( I never would have suspected anything was wrong with him usually I am a good read when one of my "kids" is sick or just not right I would have never thought Reggie would go he was such a beautiful sweet boy I just don't know what poor Sparkle will do without him, I feel bad like I missed something, back quite a few months ago Sparkle was sick she was puffy and sitting on the bottom of her cage I thought I was going to lose her but we pulled her through so I have seen the signs of illness I just didn't see them this time, she has finally left the bottom of the cage she kept walking around I tried to get her to go back up to her perch it took along time before she would leave where he last was lying its so sad, I can only imagine what she must be thinking and how lonely she must be feeling thats what is eating at me, she must know he is really gone she is not even chirping for him like she would do if he ever left her side she is just sitting there .......

There's not much you can do Laura. I know she's probably sad but she'll feel better with time. Maybe even get a new friend? It'll never be the same as Reggie but she'll have some company. I'm so sorry...:( Everytime someone says they've lost a budgie I think of Bella and start crying..

Sparkle seems to be doing ok, well as ok as she is going to get she was having a bite to eat so that was a good sign, my daughter is keeping a close eye on her I went up and said how is Sparkle doing and Lexy said emotionally I think she is devasted but physically she is ok.

I don't know much about Bella, Aly when do you lose her? was she young like Reggie?

Bella was my only bird at the time. I had her for two years and she died of a spider bite 02/12/2004. We had some strange spider in the house..it bit me the night before and my hand was swollen, red and had white pattern stripes -it was really scary...it bit her the night after and I found her with that same marking on her. I'm still not over it. My mom thought she was doing me a favor and bought Jazzy the same day...it was never the same again. Now I have 10....

Poor Reggie :( I hope all your other birds will continue to do great. I wonder why some birds go so young, Iam so sorry :(

I'm so sad to read this awful news. :( Unfortunately that's sometimes the way it is with budgies, seemingly healthy one minute and gone the next. Bad breeding has lead to some shortened life spans, so it wouldn't have been a thing you did. *hugs* I hope you and Sparkle start feeling a little better soon. RIP Reggie.

Thanks everyone I am still worried about Sparkle I have seen her eat but she is so quiet she is just sits there looking around, they use to be so loud together always chirping at each other maybe she just needs sometime

Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear about Reggie. :( I know how much pain you are going through. It took me ages to get over the death of my beloved budgie, Percy. And poor Sparkle too. :( Again I'm very sorry.

Thanks for thinking of her Aly ;) she is very quiet still not a peep out of her she is moving around abit more and still eating when I put the food down I took your advice and got some new seed today, you just never know, I have been watching her closely I am a little paranoid now she is still not herself but thats to be expected I am sure she is upset poor little thing losing her mate after all this time together, I am going to wait a few days to make sure she is not sick not knowing what happened to Reggie I don't want to take any chances then I will move her cage closer to the tiels maybe it will cheer her up.

Yea- Ollie's singing should cheer her up...I wish I knew what happen with Reggie though.
