my boyfriend is scared to breed tiels again because of what happened
max's parent layed 6-7 eggs, 6 babies hatched
3 were being taken care of by another pair
when all hatched there was 2 cinnamons, 3 lutinos, 1 pearl lutino
the cinnamons were named shadow and scribbles (which i named and was going to get :( ). the rest dont have names
anyways. the 3 lutinos were being raised in the original parents nest. but either the mother pheonix (who is completely evil) or her grandson killed 2 of them. and they were only close to a week old
so that left us with 4
Scribbles and the last lutino somehow started getting airbubbles ( we think its from hand feeding them improperly) and they died :(
all that was left was shadow and the youngest baby who was a pearl lutino
shadow stoped crying for food (he had almost all his feathers out of the needles, but was still at the age to be fed by parents) he died. My boyfriend got so depressed over it.
The only baby thats left is the pearl lutino. Whom we have a million names for (not a fully decided name for) Its doing quite well. And is probably going to be the most tame bird we've ever seen. Its already nicer than his favorite tiel Puffin.

Iam sorry to hear about the babies :( I guess Pheonix is not meant to be a breeder. Why was the grandson bird in the nest?

It must be awful to lose so many babies. Sounds like if they are allowed to breed the babies will have to be pulled at an early age for handfeeding. But if they were being improperly hand fed perhaps more study and instruction would be in order.

Sorry for the loss, that's horrible.
You still have one left, although it's not as good as having them ALL, but you'll be able to raise one of them at least.. and spoil him/her.

I am sorry for your loss. It is always difficult to lose a bird.

I'm sorry for your loss, but on the bright side you will have a baby to remember them all by. :)

Pheonix was originally a very good parent, but eventually she started abusing her babies. her and griffin keep attempting to lay eggs. so he's just going to move ALL eggs to a different pair for them to take care of.
about the grandson bird. i dont know why lol. he had all his tiels divided up weirdly in the cages.
he has new cages now to separate them more

I am sorry for your loss, but sometimes parents turn on their clutch for one reason or another. My my male cockatiel was paired with my female Buttercup. They had a very large clutch the last time they were bred. Much larger than they ever had. There were eight eggs.. fertile eggs. Four babies hatched. One day kisses attacked a baby. It was only two days old. We were able to stop the bleeding.. but the chick lost most of its toes, half a wing, and had many other cuts. We attempted to hand feed the young chick, but caring for one so young is extremely difficult. A pocket of air was trapped in its crop and we were unable to remove it. Within that night it happened the chick died. We consulted with an even more experienced breeder and she said that sometimes they males do that. She said if it happens again he should be removed... and with our luck, it did happen again..to all of the chicks this time. Again we were able to stop the bleeding. One chick lost half of its toes. The rest of the chicks had minor cuts. We put them all back with just the mother and removed and disposed of the remaining unhatched eggs.. as much as I would of loved for all those chicks, it would be too much stress on Buttercup to care for herself.
All of those chicks grew up well. The one with the missing toes is a male lutino named Meatball.
None of this has ever happened before.
I wouldn't be scared to breed again, but be careful with that certain pair.. I would retire them.

Meatball looks very cute (in your sig)
i think my boyfriend is starting to get over it now.
pheonix and griffin were supposed to be retired, but they started laying. and he moved some eggs to hoppy and elly for them to care for

Hopefully everything works out.
I hope he didn't beat himself up from what happened. Sometimes things like that aren't totally in our control.
Good luck!

I'm very sorry about what happened to your 'tiels. I know that was a very difficult time. Hopefully, things will go better in the future especially with the remaining baby.
