I have a baby normal pied male. He is split to whiteface pied. I set his father up with a new female and will have babies soon. I am hoping for a whiteface lutino pied female. If I get her I was thinking of breeding her with my pied male baby. I would get both normal and whiteface babies from them. I not sure if I should because it would be his half sister. I have heard good and bad on this and was wondering what you guys think.

i would not do it at all...even a half sister still has some of the same genetics and it can result in deformed babies as well as babies with serious health problems....find another whiteface lutino not related if u want to do that

Definately not a good idea. You really should try to keep the bloodlines very separate, it will ensure you the healthier flock for sure.

Thats what I thought too but I had heard of people breeding parent to child to keep a trait going. If anyone has heard of this or has done it let me know. I think I will try to find him a girl.

Yes that has been done (linebreeding) to preserve a trait that there is no other way to continue. It is more commonly done with a grandparent to a grandchild. If you have another way of getting the WF gene (if that is your aim) back into your line it's best to get some fresh blood in there. There probably is enough genetic diversity but as Kim said if the baby happens to carry a gene for a weakness and they share that gene you could end up with problems.
