Hey all,

I am starting to get the swing of getting a birdy salad together but would love to hear how each of your prepare them.

I have also started adding cooked yam as I heard it helps adding vitamin A but just want to get the best diet for my little guys.

I feed the veggies in the AM and the pellets in the evening with seed bedtime snack.

This is from a link Bea put up a while back: I've tried it. They like it.

SEVEN LAYER SALAD
Layer 1 (bottom layer) - chopped greens, which are varied each week. One week, I'll use collard greens and parsley and mustard greens, and the next I might use Swiss chard, kale and dandelion greens.

Layer 2 - chopped (1/4 to 1/2 inch cubes) green vegetables, including any of the following: Brussels sprouts, zucchini and other summer squash, jicama, red or green peppers, fresh hot peppers, chayote squash, green beans, fresh peas, cucumber, celery, anise root, etc.

Layer 3 - chopped broccoli and shredded carrots

Layer 4 - dry, uncooked pasta. This will absorb some of the moisture from the mix and soften nicely.

Layer 5 - cooked beans. I usually buy one of the 13 or 17 bean soup mixes, which I soak overnight, rinse, and then bring to a boil and cook for about 25 minutes, then drain.

Layer 6 - a mixture of chopped apples, oranges and whole grapes

Layer 7 - frozen mixed vegetables.

The containers are then placed in the refrigerator (don't freeze).

I've been using the seven layer salad for AGES now, it's easy for me and much loved by the birds. :)

I know this may sound like a dumb question so my apologies ahead of time but do you keep it in layers or mix it up so it's a hodge-podge?I've been using the seven layer salad for AGES now, it's easy for me and much loved by the birds. :)

You keep it in layers until it's ready to serve. I make two tubs on a Saturday, and i make them in layers. Then on Sunday i mix one and start using it, usually it will last three days, and then i mix the second tub (which is still really fresh because of how it's layered) and use that for the rest of the week.
