why not put the carrot peelings in with your birds some i no just don,t think of doing this but the peelings are not just healthy for them but us as well and it is a treat for the birds as well

i was thinking of also doing something but it depends on the admins and it depends on all of you as well what i was thinking we have a good number of people that are just getting into cockatiels and there are some that have several recipes that we could do a weekly birdie recipe but it depends on submissions from all of you and when a recipe is posted the person who submited will have there name at the bottom of the recipe in case someone wants to ask the person how they made it or other questions

in order to do this you will have to send me a private message with the recipe and the title of the recipe

That is a great idea Allen! Can someone make it a sticky so it's easy to find? We have a few threads like that but they always get lost in the shuffle!

I would share!

I second the carrot peelings. Holly loves them and the moment the carrots come out of the fridge she is extremely impatient for her treats. It took several attempts at offering her carrots before she decided if she liked them or not but once she discovered them she can get quite offended if she doesn't get her share.

A cockatiel feed mixture I picked up for her includes dried carrots. Holly has discovered if she drops them in her water they "re-hydrate" to her preference. She will drop the carrot into her water dish then stand over it watching it closely. She’ll then pick at often until it reaches perfection, at which point she will take it out of the water, carry it back to her food bowl and eat. She has since moved to trying other things soaked in water, some things work out better for her than others. This leads to having to change her water often during the day, but it keeps her entertained and it’s fun to see what she prefers soaked in water and what she doesn’t.
