I know that the Lutino mutation has red eyes, but what about others?
Gumbo obviously has pied markings, however, he/she has red eyes, not dark ones like pieds usually have. Another thing, Gumbo also has a small green/blueish iris.
I've read that a lutino pied is possible, but they keep the yellow coloring of the feathers instead of the grey.
Any ideas?

The Fallow mutation has red eyes. Some pieds eye color will be affected if the lack of melanin is in the area if their eyes.

Recessive Silvers also have red eyes

I have a cinnamon pearl pied with red eyes. Her younger sister has black eyes.. one of the only ways I can visually tell them apart haha.
Does anyone know how red eyes are genetically linked?

Maybe it's a Fallow pearl Cheryl!

Could she be? She is in my signature. I am so unsure now. From pictures i've seen of fallow, she doesn't really look that much like it.

Could very well be! Fallows look just like Cinnamons (a little lighter usually) with the exception of the red eyes.

Back to the drawing board..

I have a Cinnamon with Grey eyes. No idea how that works out but yeah. Then I have a Lutino with red eyes.
I'm trying to find out how the red eyes are genetically linked but I can't find anything.
I found this: (still looking though)
This gene leaves a white creature with red eyes because the melanin has been removed. In the Lutino the same effect has taken place.

the red eyes aren't just in birds, it is all albino species - Albino deer have red eyes , albino humans (yes there is such a thing but very few and far in between) have red eyes - how ever they do call them pink eyes on most albino species - but Red is the same thing.

I also read somewhere plum eyes, which yes, I know is the same as Pink/Red.
I hadn't ever heard of Albino humans until I started looking into Cockatiels having red eyes, it's very strange, but interesting at the same time.

Plum can be found in Cinnamon Whiteface Pieds pretty commonly. It seems a little different. A Whiteface Lutino has no melanin. Same with the Lutino. The Fallow has melanin but it is greatly reduced. But with the Cinnamon Whiteface Pied I find the plum colored eyes happen in Pieds with white heads.

Call me stupid, but what is melanin?
I figured something they don't have that's to do with the eyes.. but that's all.

Melanin is the substance that create the Gray or tan on a Cockatiel. The Yellow and orange is produced by Lipochrome. So a from the base of a normal Gray, a bird that lacks Melanin would be a Lutino. A Bird that lacks Lipochrome would be a Whiteface. A bird that lacks both would be a Whiteface Lutino. A.k.a. Albino. (A totally white bird with red eyes)

I've only seen 2 Albino humans in my life - one i was a kid and don't really remember too much off, and one was not too long ago standing on the sidewalk while we drove down the road (only reason i knew he was an Albino is because my b/f knows him personally lol)

:o
So they really have that white hair and the red eyes? I'd be a bit creeped out (nothing against them)
I've never in my life seen one, been face to face with one. They're like us, but I don't know.. so different, I guess it's the Albino. I was reading about them, got quite interested.
