I love to cook, but I have never in my life for some reason made bread... until I found out that you can improve your tiels diet with home made corn bread, so I set out to make this nutritious bread out of "Jiffy" I added everything you can imagine that is good for tiels ( I visited alot of recipe sites for what is supposed to be good for tiels) everything came out fine, incuding the taste test, but the bread crumbles. You can not clip it to anything, Is there anything else that I can add to make it more firm? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
The birdy bread i make (from scratch) is really really dense bread, it's quite moist too. It holds together enough that i can peg it to the cage (though once the tiels start chewing it then it falls apart a bit). Is your Jiffy based bread dense?
Generally i'll feed birdy bread crumbled in a food bowl though, so for me the crumbling issue wouldn't be a problem at all.
What Bea said. :) If you do a search for birdie bread there are some good proven recipes posted here. I posted one a while back too. Also, try to use cornbread mix that doesn't contain lard. Most do.

Crumbled really is ok. I often mix some in with my birds regular food and they eat it willingly

i just put mine in a treat dish and they devour it
but a side note don't use Jiffy brand corn bread mix it has lard in it Use a corn bread mix that doesn't have lard listed in the ingredients on the package

Or just use regular old cornmeal. My birdie bread had the following:
Cornmeal
Whole wheat flour
Quick oatmeal
Fruit Zupreem pellets
Flax seed
Finch seed mix
Minced veggies: carrots, peas, green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, romaine lettuce, parsley, cilantro, sweet potato, and corn
Cinnamon
Hagen Natural pellets
Leftover pellet dust that I collect in a dish at the end of each day
Water
Turned out a little flat, but crumbles great. Next time I plan to make mini muffins so it's easier to freeze them for storage
