At our house our lights went off, my Mom went to the next door neibors to use their phone and call an electrican. He came and discovered that water was leaking in to our electrcal box. Which could of started a fire.
He fixed it up and then he discovered something else are furnace was not hooked up properley the pipes were off and gas was leaking into our house  He turned off our furnace.
We then called the fire department to check our air quality. Our air is safe to breath and luckliy our birds seem to be doing fine. I would not know what to do if they all died it would have been horrible :(
The furnace people came and fixed our furnace and every thing is fine now. I would of worried about the birds getting to cold tonight we have an electirc fire place though.
Also as a side note last night my cat Shadow was down in the basement meowing like crazy ( not his usual behaviour), we thought he was trying to start a fight with our other cat Sugar. But now we think he was trying to tell us something was wrong with the furnace. Well I just thought that I would share my scary story with you guys. Iam so glad that we are all ok.

Animals are amazing. Iam glad that the gas level in the house was not high enough to kill. I thought any thing above normal would kill a bird. But Iam so glad that is not what happened.

Wow!! I'm glad you figured out what was happening before it got too bad. Couldn't you smell the gas? I find that even when out ducted heating comes on for the first time in winter that i can faintly smell gas, i would've thought if it were leaking the smell would be stronger.

Gas leaks are terrible. You never know when it hits u. It's a good thing you were able to fix it before anything bad happened. I also believe the cat may have been trying to tell you something...too bad they can't talk.

Wow, I'm glad your OK. Its good that you were able to find out the leaky electrical box and the gas leak. Gas leaks can be really bad if there not detected right away.

We could not smell any gas. Our ducts are weird for 3 rooms upstairs only one pipe goes to all 3. We do have a carbon detector though. I wonder if they start to beep only after the gas is fatal to birds and dangerous for humans. I hope not. I think Iam going to go out and buy another carbon detector. I think every one should have one on the main level and in the bird room.
