View Full Version : What Mutation is Jinx?

I'm having a very hard time working out what mutation Jinx is. I think she's split to pied, she has some unusual markings (and I swear she has some pearl-like scalloping), but that's not what bugs me. I have Harley, who is a pure platinum whiteface. I also have Ivy, who is a pure cinnamon pearl.
The trouble is that Jinx looks both platinum and cinnamon. I suspect she's the product of a cinnamon-platinum cross, because she's not brown like a cinnamon or silvery beige like a platinum.
I was hoping you guys could help me out. I know not all cinnamons look brown, but I just can't work out what she is!
This is Harley (Platinum Whiteface):

This is Ivy (Cinnamon Pearl):

And this is Jinx:

Mutations is one things I am not great at but we have lots of people here who are so I'm sure you'll get an answer. I just wanted to say she's super cute!

she really looks like a wf cinnamon pied to me...i think she is more than split to pied because of the white feathers on her back.....i dont think they are pearl markings....little m has similar ones its kinda like a yellow (or in ur case white) is under a grey or brown feather giving the illusion of scalloping...in my opinion she is quite brown.....i dont think she looks much like Harley....she looks more cinnamon....it just looks different on the white background to teh yellow background....so my vote is a wf cinnamon pied

I'm starting to see more brown when I look at her, I think I just mentally compare her to the cinnamons I've seen in person which have been very, very brown and she looks much closer to Harley's colour than those cinnamons.
I wish I could put her side by side with Harley and Ivy, but I can't put her with Harley for another 3 weeks, and Ivy's coming this week so it will be 4 weeks for her.
I can't get over how pretty she is, she's just gorgeous. I'd love to take more photos, but she's a very bad biter (she bit my dad, who's used to black nails and has been in many bike crashes and he basically screamed), and so I have to be careful.
I thought the white marks on her head might be a thumb print rather than actual pied markings, but her being pied does make sense because of the white scalloping, which is certainly scalloping but not in the same way as the pearls I've seen.
I wish you could do a DNA test where you could put a feather in machine and it would tell you the gender, age, mutations and splits!

lmao that would be so awesome!! maybe one day....well from the photos i think she is quite strongly brown....its really weird the cinnamons cause i think it does vary quite a bit....for instance little kimmie is a cinnamon pearl and Saturn is a pastelface cinnamon pied and their browns are very different...i finally realised that Mary was a wf cinnamon pearl but it took me ages because i compared her to little kimmie who is the typical cinnamon....i ahve no idea about how platinum works as to whether there are variations and if she could be one....all i know is that from those pics she really looks a beautiful brown...and most definately pied!!! she sure is beautiful tho...i love her head patch....its so much bigger than other tiels!! another reason as to her being a pied not just split to it! yowser on the biting.....little k is like that.....she makes me bleed alot if i try to handle her.....shes a happy girl in her little world tho so i just avoid it.....its such a shame tho....id love to share the love with her!

I think she'll eventually calm down. Mozart was clearly used to handling and she stopped biting after a few days. Quinn was the same although she was an aviary bird with negative human contact, and I expect Jinx will stop too when she learns my hands mean food and open cages.
I do see her as being more brown than grey now, there's so much variation in cinnamons that a lot of them seem grey to me in photos. Once I get Ivy I think the brown will be more obvious to me.
So if she's pied, does that mean she might not be a girl? She's obviously not that young (she's bigger than all of my other tiels and the shop said she was over a year) and she still has heavy barring on her tail, just like Mozart, who's only split. She makes the same sort of noises that Mozart does, too.

i would say she would be a girl from the behaviour u explain.....particularly with her being over a year old...all it means is that if u ever breed her u will at least get some pied chicks...other mutations depending on the daddy of course....and if daddy is some sort of pied im not sure of the percentage but i would say nearly all would be pied....so does that mean harley is ur only boy??? what a lucky guy!!!

she looks like a white face cinnamon split to pied to me
I think it's just her feathers that make it look like pearls, I think its a combo of the colors, and how nicely they lay against her makes it looked like they're scalloped but i don't see any pearls at all
Cinnamon's have many different shades of "brown"
but if Platinum Cinnamon is a mutation ( I haven't heard of it before but I know there are ones out there i've never heard of lol) Than its very possible that is what she is.
but for now i'm going with WF Cinnamon Split to pied

It was described to me that the two colours can kind of blend, so either colour becomes washed out. I picked this up in a discussion with Jo, who has been advising me in regards to genetics. It's why she breeds pure platinums.
I'm going for whiteface cinnamon pied. She's just so stunning, I'm in love!
Harley is the only boy with a harem of 4 beautiful young ladies. I'm hoping he chooses Mozart and not Ivy. But if he chooses Ivy, I'll keep all the babies to avoid having them contributing to dilluting the colours.
