So, I keep hearing that you should cook potatoes & sweet potatoes before serving to our fids? Does anyone know why I can't just cut them down to tiny bits and serve or does cooking them help eliminate a potential threat?

I've read that you can give sweet potato raw, but cooking it releases more nutrients. I could be wrong, so forgive me.
I personally buy organic sweet potato baby food and add that to my bird's mash of veggies. It's cheaper (99 cents a jar) and there's no cutting or cooking involved :D

I don't give my tiels regular potatos but I do give them baked sweet potatos. Jim and I usually have baked sweet potato about once a week and I always give some of mine to Hawkeye and Holly before I drown the rest in butter and brown sugar. Jim always said my birds eat healthier than I do as I reach for another spoonful of butter...LOL
Potatoes must be baked due to a toxic substance that it naturally has. I will have to look up the name and tell you. I know this esspecially true with regular potatoes. Mine do eat regular potatoes but not often at all. They do love sweet potatoe. It's not a big deal to cook it at all and if you do one, it lasts a few days (atleast)..or you can just eat the rest. Sweet potatoes are better for them then regular.
