Today we had to say goodbye to our last baby guinea pig that was born here. Tigger was six years old and had reached the end, I took her to the vet and he discovered that she had a lump on her kidney. So now, we are down to one guinea pig, Ziggy, he will be four years old in January, so hopefully we have a few years left with him. Obviously I am sad that Tigger has gone, but I know that whilst she was with us, she had the best of everything and there was nothing more we could have done for her, so although it is quite a sad time, it is also inevitable that it had to happen.

She's with her sister and brother now, over the Rainbow Bridge, eating all the best parsley.

Thanks Laura, yes, she did have a good life. Running around free in the garden with all the other piggies in the summer, the best of the best in the way of food, hay, hutches etc. etc. our piggies are really spoilt lol. So, like I said, although it's sad, it was just her time and there is nothing to make me think "I wish I'd done this or that" and that is a nice comforting feeling.

RIP Tigger. Sounds like she had the best of care with you. Is 6 years old for a guinea pig?

Is 6 years old for a guinea pig?

I have heard average life span is 4-8 yrs put I am sure Plukie would know better about that ;)

It is a pretty average sort of age. We started off with 12 piggies, some left us as young as four, whilst Tigger was our oldest to go at six, so yeah, it's not a bad age. It would be nice if all pets could last as long as we do.

It would, but timing it so we all dropped dead on the same day so no one had to feel sad could be an issue. ;) I dread the day my special babies will die, but then i think that before then i will have had so many happy experiences and lots of time to love them and be loved in return. It's all worth it in the end.

It certainly is worth it Bea, there are so many happy memories of all of our piggies and rabbits that have now gone to the bridge. We are lucky in that we have loads and loads of photos and videos of them as well, so it's all good memories.

I'm very sorry to hear this, RIP Tigger. :( I know she would have had a brilliant, caring home with you. But like you said, she's had a good life so try to think about that rather than the loss of her herself....sorry again.
