The last batch of beans I made turned out all mushy. My Daughter came over when the beans were at the halfway point in cooking. I just shut the pot off figuring I'd get back to what I was doing after she left. Well when I got back to it the beans were cooked thru. I guess just the heat that was in them continued cooking them. Well I still hadn't added the rice and the quinoa. I Usually do That in the last 25 minutes for the rice and last 10 minutes for the quinoa. So I had to get it boiling again to finish up those steps. I did that and the result was something like re fried beans. Not quite that mushy but certainly not solid. The first time I used it it seemed fine but yesterday they ate very little. So I decided to take a couple of my containers and put them in my food processor. I added a little flax oil and some more pellets. It just wasn't moving much in the food processor so I added white grape juice. This got it moving. In the end I had something that looked exactly like re fried beans with fruit pellets in it. Well this they wouldn't even touch! I had a couple of brave souls try it but the flew of as soon as they tasted it. Ok well I didn't want the rest of this batch to go to waste! I still had a bowl with almost 3 cups of good healthy stuff. So I got out some natural pellets, some corn meal, a couple of eggs and a bit of flour and mixed it up with a dough hook. Once again it was too dry to mix so in went more grape juice and 4 more eggs. Now I had batter! I thought it would look prettier with more pellets so in they went as well. This stuff just kept growing! I didn't have any muffin tins but I had one tin that had those little shell shapes. I know they have a name but I can't think of it. What I ended up with in the bowl made more than 3 dozen of these little shell shaped birdy treats. I put one in the aviary to see how well received they would be and they ate the whole thing in the time it took me to write this. I think I have a hit! Plus since it's dry I don't have so much too worry about it. They won't sit in the aviary and grow bacteria!

The only part that was wasted was the mush I originally put in their bowls. I still have 4 containers of the somewhat mushy mix in the freezer and I think I will use them to make more of these treats. I soaking some more dry beans to cook up tomorrow! I'll just have to be sure not to let them get away from me.

Thank You Kim! I hated not being able to remember that. When you get to my age you begin to find there are files you just can't always access when you want to.

They look good :) Glad you were able to save the mix and make something else. How long do you cook the beans for, usually?

The beans go for about an hour. I throw the rice in at the halfway point and the quinoa about 15mins later. The last 5 mins I put in some pasta.
