He passed away sometime last night/this morning. :(
I was taking him to the vet this morning, I didn't have the money until today to take him, but I left it too late. He was eating and drinking fine, but sitting on the bottom of the cage since yesterday.. ugh it sucks so much.. now since he was in the cage with the other boys up until yesterday we've gotta take Jasper and Charlie to the vet to see if they're okay.. they seem okay but still.

Heh, my 2 little brothers are going to be so upset. I guess it's something that happens, regardless, I still feel it was my fault for not taking him to the Vet sooner. So I'm sorry rather than safe. :(

I'm so sorry to hear that. I know you've been worried about him but it must have been a horrible shock.
Don't blame yourself. As people, we can't really tell how sick an animal is or how advanced an illness has become until it's fairly serious. I've lost a lot of animals who I've felt I could have saved if I'd just brought them in that bit earlier, but you can't blame yourself.
So many people never take their pets to the vet in the first place, and you know how much you loved him. If you had felt it was more serious, you know you would have taken him in sooner, but you couldn't tell. Animals are just too good at hiding these things, and at any given time it could be something serious or something trivial. We use our best judgement, and sometimes luck's just not on our side.
Squeak knows you loved him, and he was loved until the end. I'm sure that's all that matters to him.

Thanks Danielle, that made me feel a lot better!
That's the problem with Cockatiels, you can't tell if they're sick until they really start showing it and out of the blue they pass away, making you feel really helpess.
Hopefully he knows I love him, and will continue to until the end, he's definitely not going to be forgotten either. I've got all his photos in a folder, I hadn't taken photos of him for a couple of days before he died, unfortunately, but at least I've got a fair few of him I have to keep and remember him by.

I'm glad if that helped. I've lost several rats the day before they were due to see the vet or get surgery and it never fails to keep me up at night, wondering if I'd just got them in that bit earlier what would have happened.
Eventually logic takes over and you realise that with animals that mask their symptoms so thoroughly there's just no way to tell how sick they really are.
I guess when you think about it, in the wild their lives depend on that ability to hide weakness, so it's no wonder they're so good at it. Even vets say how hard it is to gauge how sick birds actually are without weights and blood tests and smears and so forth. If vets have trouble with all that education, us regular people don't have much of a chance.
I always used to regret not taking more pictures of my rats. They only live a couple of years, maybe 3 if you're lucky, so you don't get much time with them. The thing is, you'll remember Squeak, he's in your heart and he'll stay there. Photos are great when you have them, but memories are even more special.

Danielle is so right! Don't blame yourself. There's no way you could have known sooner. It is their nature to hide illness. I'm sure he knows you love him!

You've all got a point. I still can't stop thinking about him, but trying to remember those good times, as hard as it is to try block out that he's actually gone.
