Ok, so we have a bunch of banana trees in the backyard and the only thing I use the leaves for is to cook with sometimes *steaming*...are they safe for the tiels? Can't seem to find the info...

i think it should be ok. i read somwhere that all fruit tree branches and leaves are suppose to be safe, but i wouldn do it until i was positive cause i worry so much about things

Yea, I doubt all fruits are ok...still checking. Maybe I'll call my vet tomorrow.

well i think i read that for perch making and it said something like all fruit tree branches are safe as long as the fruit itself is safe for birds. so, i would assume that the leaves on bird safe branches would be safe too? but i could be wrong. i just googled it and couldnt find anything either sorry i couldnt help

all i am finding is Banana's and banana chips
and my search was on Banana leaves - me and search engines do not get along lol

Yea, I can't seem to find anything-only about bananas and mine are afraid of bananas so...we'll see.

Feeding Feathers says banana leaves are a good nontoxic shredding toy. No word on its merits as a food source. It's a yahoo group so I can't link to the post. The leaves are frequently used as food wrappers in Asia so they must be pretty safe, but they're considered to be inedible for humans.

Thanks tielfan! I knew you'd have an answer. I'm gonna try to call our vet tomorrow to double check. They have a book there and are willing to always check for me. :rolleyes: Yea, they're not edible but make great steamers and help infuse food nicely..(rice etc)...we make little packets. I just wondered because they would love to shred to it since it's similar to paper.
