The first chick out of Rocky and Rosie's clutch hatched yesterday. It was completely healthy from what i could see and Rosie was taking care of it. I went up to the room they were in to check on them and when i looked in the nestbox Rocky was tucking the eggs under him. But when he got to the chick he grabbed it by the neck and flung it.....I took him out of the cage and put him in a spare cage but it was too late for the chick...it died.
I wish I could have done something to stop Rocky from killing it. Hopefully the chick's siblings will be healthy and survive.
Rest in Peace little chick I'm sorry I couldn't save you.

I'm very sorry for the loss of this wee one :( Sometimes the parents know when a chick is just "not right" and will toss it from the nest. It seems cruel to us but it is how they survive. I hope the next babies will thrive. Just keep a really close eye on things. Are you prepared to handfeed early if absolutely needed?

I am so sorry. I believe as does Canuck2007. The chick was most likely sick or something. But do keep a close eye on the next ones, just in case.

Thank you. I am prepared to handfeed early and I have someone who has had experience feeding baby birds that can show me how. I will be keeping a very close eye on the babies that will come.
