I don't know what happened. I got up this morning and came out to Cuervo's cage, uncovered it and there he was... laying in the bottom, dead. I feel so horrible. He was only 4 months old, I had only had him for 2 months. But hes gone now. I was so careful to not use any cleaners around his cage, no candles, no incense. I don't know what I did wrong.
I don't think I'll get another one. I'm going to put his cage and everything else on craigslist and the local news paper. I've washed everything down real well with bleach water and let it all air dry. I put him in a small box and buried him in the back corner of the yard.
I just don't know what I did wrong. He was so awsome to have, and so friendly. I had put alot of time into him, he loved to sit on my shoulder and chew on my earrings. He'd chirp sweetly at me and cock his head down wanting a scratch. Its so sad, he didn't deserve to die. He was still just a baby....

I'm sorry for your loss
it could of been he had a illness prior to you obtaining him. since birds are so good at hiding their illnesses most of the time we don't know they are even sick until they die.

Hi
i am so very sorry your little friend has passed
sadly at that age it could be so many things
he was 4 months but you had him for two
theres a lot of parasites that take young birds because people are not aware that they get passed by the parents
theres a number of avian flus about that are so fast acting its scary
bad food when young ( before you got him) can do bad things
and being young they just sit it out and not show symptoms
please do not blame yourself unless you know it was your actions
think instead of the happiness you brought your bird and the happiness your friend brought you

i beleive animals have souls
i wish it is true
then you'll see your friend again one day
we all will
take care

Thank you everyone for all of your comments back.
And thank you Jack, my husband was even upset when I told him and he wasn't really that crazy about the bird. We've been racking our brains all day trying to figure out why it happened. Maybe if we do ever decide to get another one we'll look into getting an adult bird.
Again, thank you everyone...

They can have heart attacks if something scares them. It doesn't happen often but it does happen.

One of my first cockatiels (my personal cockatiel, not family pet) died only a week after I got it. It was completely fine and then randomly one morning I found her on the bottom dead. I was devastated and told the bird store about what happened and they gave me a free bird. That is how I got Kisses who I have had for almost 9 years now. He is as healthy as can be. I still don't know to this day what happened. I did nothing different than I have done with Kisses.
Please please don't blame yourself! Many things are beyond your control. I wouldn't give up getting a new bird because of that.
May your little guy rest in peace. Be happy you gave it the best while you had it.
