we decided to make it a bit different this time, instead of using bread pans and a cake pan, and having the same ole' boring Square chunks of birdy bread
we used muffin pans
then last night after all the birds were in bed, my b/f realized he completely forgot the mixed veggies :o
but I said it was okay They didn't mind, and nothing wrong with changing how its done once in a while
So this batch was
Corn Meal
100% Pure Apple juice(instead of the water the corn meal called for)
Cooked Multi grain, multicolored spiral noodles
Cooked 15 bean mix
abt 3 hard boiled eggs shell and all
4 eggs that the corn meal package called for
our normal birdy bread has all that PLUS a bag of mixed veggies
we sprinkle seed/pellet on the bottom of the pan , this time we didn't put any on top though like we normally do (we started doing that because a friend came over one day while the birdy bread sat on the table cooling and cut into it and ate it :o:rolleyes::wacko: and he liked it ! LOL
So here is the Muffins they had yesterday
we flipped a couple over to show the bottom (hence the reason you see the seeds lol)

and what they normally look like when we make them - boring squares -

Then my boyfriend got the idea to go buy a couple mini muffin pans. Because one birdy muffin was able to be broken up and given to at least 4 different cages, and that is including the cages with 2 food dishes in them.
so the next time we make them - they'll be mini muffin birdy bread - Bite size for all our birds :)

I want to make birdy bread, but I'm having so much trouble trying to find tins that aren't non-stick. :(

We use the mini cupcake type baking pans and we use the little paper inserts in them, We mix a box of jiffy mixx and add apple juice in place of the water. We put cereal (cheerios, 5 grain, fruit loops and what ever we have (we mix the cereal together and blend it up) not real small but sort of, we put fresh veggies cut up fine and a jar of baby food, bannana or what ever and mix all together and make the little muffins up and give each cage 1 muffin every couple days. I think there favorite is mixed cereal (cheerios or what have you) and we give them in a little treat bowl and there usually eaten up pretty well, so... be happy :)
PS the thing of seeds on the bottom sounds good, ill have to try that.

ATV, I love the seed sprinkles. I never thought of that. I have used cracked red pepper in mine before and the Zupreem veggie pellets. I have also eaten my own birdie bread. I wanted to make sure it was good enough for the tiels after all:p I can't say I would want to eat a plate full but it was not bad... my hubby was grossed out that I ate the bird pellets in the bread. The tiels love it though...

LOL i've never tried it, i just know sprinkling the seed in the pan. while cooking makes my house stink - cooked seeds =gross smell LOL
we've always made birdy bread in a non stick pan - non stick is safe Until it gets heated at 750 Degrees( don't know a oven that goes that high) OR burnt badly. like leaving water in a pan and evaporates but the burner is still on
but they do make those new fangled cook wear i can't remember the name but it looks like its made out of some sort of rubber or something, its bendable, i've seen them in muffin pans, they even make spatulas like that now.

The birdy bread looks good :) I have heard of people losing their birds to non stick cook wear used at normal temperatures  Iam not sure I would trust that rubber type cook wear either. I heard of a lady who used a silicone type oven liner and her birds died :( Here is a link with some info http://www.avianweb.com/teflon.htm

As far as cooking containers go, we use glass.
Our bread:
2-3 packages corn muffin mis (whatevers on sale)
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup wheat pasta
1 cup pellets
1 cup smashed monkey biscuits (ok, they are for birds, but we call them monkey biscuits lol)
4-6 eggs
1 cup shredded carrots
This time we added 1 washed can of organic spinich to the mix. Time before that, the same kind of peas. (Though I have determined that the peas give at least one of the birds some poo that smells horrid. NO MORE PEAS lol)
I mix it all together and then add water/juice as needed.

Im converting a lot of my bakeware to glass as well - mainly because my boyfriend has ruined all my good cake pans, and bread pans from sprinkling them with the seed/pellets
but i can't find glass muffin pans at walmart :(

I love baking birdie bread in mini muffins pans. One for each bird. It makes portioning so much easier!

actually i tried this over 5 years ago and don't remeber what i did or how it turned out. LOL
But i do know that all 3 of my teils love to eat the "Nature's Pride" 12 grain Multi bread I buy for them and ME> LOL
So since I had alot of what would go in it from what I see here I gave it a try.
I used :
2 cups of whole wheat flour
1 box of corn brad muffin mix
some cooked Lentils and sweet potatoes mixed with Orzo Pasta I had frozen and they did seem to like
Some julienned Zucchini
some julienned Sweet peppers
chopped Broccoli
some chopped walnuts
some rasins
Then since I didn't have any milk substitute I mixed 1/2 A CUP OF WESSON OIL , 2 WHOLE EGGS , AND 2CUPS OF water.
i MIXED ALL THROUGHLY AND SPOONED IT INTO 3 LOAF PANS AND COOKED IT AT 350 DEGS. FOR ABOUT 35 MINUTES AND A BAMBOO SKEWER CAME OU TDRY IN ALL THREE.
I am letting it cool and probably will refrigerate it or freeze it to make it more dense and cut slices to clip in their cages. Hopefully they will like it as much as the store bought bread. since it has more good stuff in it an since I made so much of it.LOL
If they don't like it I wonder what Birdie toast taste like.LMAO
BTW I have in the past tried to convert my birds to Pellets with no luck I tried the fruit flavored and then the plain and then even the smallest sized ones. I also tried slowly increasing the pellet proportions to the seed. They just ate around the pellets. LOL
How long has it taken anyone else to convert their tiels to exclusively Pellets with any success?
BUDDY
BTW How NUTRITIONAL is that "nature's Pride"12 grain Multi Gain Production bread found it the stores? Honestly when my breeding pair use to feed thie nestlings they loved that stuff and other than Baby Spring sald greens they almost would eat any thing else except string Millet.
I am not too nutrionally informed especailly for teils so check this link out:

for the tiels who i got that never ate pellets a day in their life
took them about a month to convert from a nasty all seed(and nothing else) diet to a Pellet, diet with fresh veggies, greens, birdy bread, and other goodies
amazingly my budgies have always taken to pellets faster then the tiels
but with the babies born to me, They all come out of the nest eating pellets :) since it is what the parents eat and they're weaned on to it

we went to the gulf coast for a couple of days . So i added a few extra food trays and water trays and a few Millet sprigs and some greens .If that wasn't enough I cut some of the bread ( it feel apart when i tried to clip it ) So I put chunks in cups. When i got home all the bread was gone in both cages as where the greens and in the chicks cage the Millet also.
I was glad they ate the bread but was surprised the parents didn't eat all the millet . But the Chick almost inhales Sprig Millet. I guess that is soft , but so is the Birdie Bread. I guess that is a step in the right direction Now i think I'll buy some unflavored small pellets and see what happens . The chick should think it is Millet they look almost alike IMO>
