Very sorry for your loss... my Wife and I know first hand how it feels.

I do have a concern here I'd like to address. I didn't see in your profile where you are located - but, if in a cool climate this information may apply. This time of year especially when we are running the furnace ( be it gas or oil ) carbon monoxide is always a present threat. The fossil fuels emit it and if the venting system is not up to snuff unhealthy levels can linger in the home, and small animals are the first to be affected. You might want to check on that - both for the pets health and yours.

Also, if you have a fireplace and use firelogs or starters, they are petroleum based and emit noxious fumes, maybe not too dangerous to us, but very dangerous to our birds. Also some household chemicals ( such as oven cleaner ) can be harmful - we always move our pets to a safe, ventilated area when we use them.

Just some information I wanted to pass on here.
