Default Hello from Spain

Unfortunately, I don't have a cockatiel anymore. Coco died this weekend, she was only 2 months.

After a very windy night, I think she had a night fright and it was too much for her. Do you think a motion-detector lamp would have been a good idea?

Maria

How horrible I am deeply sorry for your loss.

A night light is a good idea. My flock are very frightened of the sound of strong wind, too.

I am so sorry for your loss.
I agree with vickitiel. A night light is essential for your birds to prevent night frights. If you don't have one, you could always just cover the cage with a thin blanket or sheet and turn the light in the room, or the room closest to it. That was what I used to do.

Thank you for your supporting comments. I'm waiting to get another cockatiel, for the moment I'm taming a young budgie :-)

So sorry about Coco. I prefer a steady night light for my birds. Sometimes they become very still but on watch for a long time after getting spooked by something, and a motion activated light would probably turn off while the bird is still upset but studying its surroundings intently. A motion activated setup also requires the bird to thrash first whereas it might not get that scared to begin with with a constant light. There's also the problem of adjusting the motion detector properly to sense the bird's activity, and even the light coming on might add to fear since it's a form of motion.

My birds seem to sleep just fine with steady lighting that would probably keep me awake.
